dallas is nice. i have no reason not to like the dallas skyline day or night. but i've always been fascinated with the houston skyline.

driving in to downtown from the east on I-10 in the early morning hours just as the sun is coming up behind you.

coming in to downtown from the south you get to see more cluster with some of the older and shorter buildings in the foreground and the taller buildings in the back.

on a sunny day driving in from the west on allen parkway or memorial drive and seeing the skyline rise up through the trees.

but my favorite is driving south on 45 from the north. when you get to the overpass on the 610 exchange and you see all the taller impressive skyskrapers all lined up abreast almost filling the panorama of your windshield. this is in my opinion the signature view of houston. breathtaking. catch it at at sunset on a clear day and you'll never forget it.

That's the view I saw 2 years ago but not at sunset. I agree, Houston's skyline is impressive. And I love the gorgeous scenery coming south on 45 from Dallas.

i like dallas skyline better. houston's is taller, but if look at dallas skyline going east from ftworth it is pretty impressive it you can see building extending all the way to plano.

I'm with the earlier posters; having lived all over Texas, it seems obvious to me.

* Dallas' skyline is better at night. The horse, the green neon tower, reunion tower...

* Houston's is better during the day: taller, more dense.

Better watch out for Austin's, though, in the next few years. It appears we have a vertical sprawl problem here. Our mayor loves downtown hirise living, and he can get pretty tough about it:

Houston's skyline is better, IMO, period.

It could be if they had some more interesting lighting at night. Right now it is a failure in that department, IMO. The best lighting is the spotlight on the top of Williams tower, and that isn't even downtown.

Houston's skyline is better IMO also...In my opinion it looks the most awe inspiring at night coming from 45 North as another poster stated...there is a sort of "decent" that happens as you approach these colossal skyscrapers...and drive into the city.
