It sure is embarrassing that IAH International passengers are welcomed to Texas with such a pathetic people mover such as this:

you do realize they are spending over 2 billion dollars on airport improvements, one of which is completely rebuilding terminal D (the international terminal)...?

the terminal improvements start on page 36..

Fly2Houston - Houston Airport System

Quote:
The new plan calls for the demolition of the more than 20-year-old building and the construction of a modern, state-of-the-art facility that reflects Bush Intercontinental Airport’s standing as a premiere global gateway and a vital economic engine for the Houston region’s strong economy.

Operational capabilities would also be dramatically improved with construction of a new terminal, as the new building would feature a total of 15 gates, each of them capable of accommodating wide body aircraft such as the Airbus A380.

And within that wonderful $2B plan, is there any literature pertaining to replacing the severely dated TermaLink and Inter-terminal people mover?

Did you have a ticket? You could have taken the Monorail and stayed in the sterile security environment.

I was astounded at all the dated configurations, materials, and signage placement that I saw on the video still present that have been gone from Houston for quite a long time now. I've only seen those things in Houston on archival pictures in my copy of Houston Freeways by Erik Slotboom.

I'm still trying to figure out:

How West Loop's "no capacity added" expansion from 1999-2003 was a modernization, when
a) there were no additional lanes added
b) there are no HOV lanes
c) there are no bus lanes
d) there are no tolled lanes, and
e) it failed to manage traffic, thus awarding itself "Texas' most congested freeway"

I'm still trying to figure out where he said the West Loop was a "modernization"? but for the record, the people of that area kicked and screamed not to let TxDot take any more land from Memorial Park, so no new room for ROW expansion was allowed. in the future they will likely have to double deck it if the Memorial Park people throw a fit again. I'm all for protecting our parks, but when there are over 1,000 acres in said park, surely they can give a few dozen to TxDot for overall better traffic flow through the city.

oh, and they are actually adding HOV lanes to 610 as part of the Uptown BRT line if I'm not mistaken...
