The top communications official at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) accused career government scientists of plotting against President Trump and told Trump supporters to arm themselves ahead of the November presidential election.

In a Facebook Live video on Sunday, HHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Caputo said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was harboring a "resistance unit" to Trump, The New York Times reported.

The career scientists "haven't gotten out of their sweatpants except for meetings at coffee shops" to plot "how they're going to attack Donald Trump," Caputo said, according to the Times. "There are scientists who work for this government who do not want America to get well, not until after Joe Biden is president."

Caputo reportedly hosted the event for followers of his personal Facebook page. His comments came after Politico first reported on Friday that top political HHS appointees have been interfering with the publication of CDC's reports on the coronavirus pandemic.
I don’’t care if he did it in What was a “private” FB page Video—I. Imagine it violates several different Federal law

But I am sure Barr will do nothing

Poll: Number of Americans willing to get COVID-19 vaccine falls to new low amid fears Trump is putting politics before safety
https://news.yahoo.com/poll-number-o...203727770.html

In early May, most Americans (55 percent) said they would get vaccinated for COVID-19 if and when a vaccine becomes available.

Now, four months later, less than a third of Americans (32 percent) say they plan to get vaccinated, according to the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll — a stunning 23-point decline that reflects rising concern about the politicization of the vaccine process and underscores how challenging it will be to stop the pandemic through vaccination alone.

The survey, which was conducted from Sept. 9 to 11, found for the first time that more Americans say they would not get vaccinated (33 percent) or that they’re not sure (34 percent) than say they would. As recently as late July, 42 percent of Americans had said they planned to get vaccinated, meaning 10 percent of the public has moved into the “no” or “not sure” column over the last month or so.

The question is why. The data shows that the accelerated pace of President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed vaccine program combined with fears that the safety of the vaccine could be compromised if politics takes precedence over science have served to transform many of those previously willing to get vaccinated against COVID-19 into skeptics.

There’s some reason for hope. Asked how soon they would want to be vaccinated against COVID-19, 12 percent of Americans say “as soon as a vaccine is available”; 51 percent say “after waiting and seeing what happens when others take it”; 21 percent say “never”; and 16 percent say they’re not sure. That means 79 percent of Americans are at least open to getting vaccinated — depending on what happens next.

Manatee County has exempted churches from their mask mandate. Not very bright IMO. As a result it's not surprising to see a bunch of cases stem from their churches - and also not surprising for Manatee County to remain "tight lipped" about the details......

3 Manatee County churches have outbreaks of COVID-19. Officials won’t say which ones
https://www.bradenton.com/news/coron...245749915.html

At least three churches in Manatee County have been linked to COVID-19 outbreaks, according to the county’s top health official.

Speaking with the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday morning, Dr. Jennifer Bencie, with the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County, confirmed the recent cases after the county’s recent removal of mask requirements in houses of worship.

Reached for comment Tuesday afternoon, a DOH-Manatee spokesman declined to provide information about which churches are currently part of an infection outbreak investigation, citing Florida Statute 381.0031.

“Florida statute prevents disclosure of specific information related to epidemiological investigations,” said Christopher Tittel, DOH-Manatee’s communications director.

The statute refers to keeping epidemiological reports confidential. They are made public “only when necessary to public health.”

In many cases, local schools, grocery stores and restaurants have publicly disclosed cases of COVID-19 in their buildings, while DOH-Manatee has refused to specify which churches were affected in the recent outbreaks.

While Bencie declined to name the three churches, she noted that there were six cases at the first church, seven cases at the second church and eight cases at the third church — 21 cases overall.

“Epidemiology has three churches with individuals who are positive, and they’re not related, so there is an issue of concern there,” Bencie explained, noting that the cases could be an example of community spread.

CDC director says face masks may provide more protection than coronavirus vaccine
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/09/16/...-vaccine-.html

Face coverings are "the most powerful public health tool" the nation has against the coronavirus and might even provide better protection against it than a vaccine, the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told lawmakers Wednesday.

A potential coronavirus vaccine will likely be available in limited quantities by the end of this year, but it may only be about 70% effective, CDC Director Robert Redfield said.

Common public screening methods unreliable
https://news.yahoo.com/common-public...201017342.html

COVID-19 screening tests used at airports, schools, and other public places are not particularly effective, a large analysis shows. Researchers synthesized the evidence from 22 studies of various screening methods, including taking people's temperature, asking about symptoms, travel history and exposure to infected or possibly infected people, and combinations of those and other approaches.

Who would you rather believe Dr. Redfield or the president's puppet Dr. Atlas? Case closed. Now the president is trying to influence Dr. Redfield into becoming another one of his "puppets"....

Trump says CDC Director Robert Redfield got it all wrong on COVID-19 masks, vaccines
https://nypost.com/2020/09/16/trump-...asks-vaccines/

Trump said that he called Redfield to express his displeasure.

Trump called upon his coronavirus adviser Dr. Scott Atlas to confirm that Redfield was incorrect about the likely speed of vaccine distribution.

Wait a minute let me do the math.....Yep! October is before the election. Guinea pigs to the front of the line....

Trump says U.S. could start distributing a coronavirus vaccine in October, contradicting CDC’s timeline
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/16/trum...n-october.html

President Donald Trump said the U.S. government could start distributing a coronavirus vaccine as early as October, a much more optimistic estimate than his own health officials have publicly advised.

“We’re very close to that vaccine as you know and I think much closer than I think most people want to say,” Trump said during a White House press briefing Wednesday.

Covid-19 infections spike to record numbers in Europe.

WHO warns of 'very serious situation' in Europe, with 'alarming rates' of virus transmission
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/09/17/e...ntl/index.html

WHO regional director Hans Kluge said at a Thursday news conference that the increase in cases should serve as a warning of what is to come.

"Weekly cases have now exceeded those reported when the pandemic first peaked in Europe in March," Kluge said.

COVID-19 may surge in Hillsborough, Southwest Florida, thermometer data indicates
https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/wel...es/ar-BB199Abv

Hillsborough County and Southwest Florida could be on the verge of another rise in cases of the novel coronavirus, warns a company that tracks fevers to spot early signs of spreading disease.

Kinsa Health relies on more than one million internet-connected thermometers across the country to try to detect outbreaks before people can get tested or go to the doctor. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the company’s data has shown spikes in certain regions two or three weeks before a similar jump in confirmed cases.

Here's a link to the Kinsa Health USA interactive map (see below). The map says that for Hillsborough, Manatee, & Sarasota Counties the expected Rt value is .98 - 1.01 and currently Hillsborough county has an Rt value of 1.03, while Manatee and Sarasota Counties have an Rt value of 1.04. They currently rate Atypical transmission (the degree of abnormal community spread) as "moderate" for Sarasota & Manatee County.
