National Institutes of Health staffer to 'retire' after being outed as author of online attacks against Dr. Anthony Fauci
https://news.yahoo.com/national-inst...023349363.html

The Daily Beast first identified and reported that William B. Crews was also the managing editor of right-leaning website RedState where, under the fake name “streiff,” derided the government’s work against the coronavirus outbreak, calling it "massive fraud."

The articles directly contradict and demean the agency's recommendations about COVID-19. They also trash Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, calling him a "mask nazi," among other insults.

Retire? How do you not get fired for trashing your employer online and using slurs against co-workers?

Another verified Covid-19 reinfection where the patient got sicker the second time around. Scientists claim reinfections are rare - but without more studies it's impossible to know the robustness of immunity and the implications for vaccines. This was a healthy young individual who became reinfected 51 days after his first infection.

Another case of reinfection after recovery from COVID-19 has been reported
https://news.yahoo.com/covid-19-may-...190316917.html

Genetic studies showed the first and second infections to be from slightly different strains of the virus. The reinfection made him sicker, perhaps because the second strain was more potent, or the household contact infected him with a higher load of virus, doctors said.

Operation Warp Speed advisers held investments in COVID vaccine firms, records show
https://www.post-gazette.com/news/co...s/202009230100

The Department of Health and Human Services financial disclosures, which were released by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, show that several Operation Warp Speed advisers who were selected by President Donald Trump either held board positions with firms that are currently engaged in coronavirus work, or held securities in firms now contracted to produce vaccines.

The documents “have heightened concerns that these advisers may have significant undisclosed financial conflicts of interest that, contrary to the administration’s public statements, have not been adequately addressed,” said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., chairman of the subcommittee.

Flu tests also require the same supplies that the COVID-19 test needs.

Supply shortages are forcing restrictions on who can get a COVID-19 test, and it's happening at the worst possible time
https://www.businessinsider.com/supp...19-test-2020-9

A shortage of a chemical used to process the COVID-19 test has caused healthcare systems across the US to limit who is able to get a test — right before the start of the flu season — The Wall Street Journal reported.

Some hospitals and facilities have gone back to limiting tests to the most vulnerable patients as supplies dwindle.

Massive genetic study shows coronavirus mutating and potentially evolving amid rapid U.S. spread
https://www.washingtonpost.com/healt...s/?arc404=true

Scientists in Houston on Wednesday released a study of more than 5,000 genetic sequences of the coronavirus, which reveals the virus’s continual accumulation of mutations, one of which may have made it more contagious.

That mutation is associated with a higher viral load among patients upon initial diagnosis, the researchers found.

Trump claims White House can overrule FDA's attempt to toughen guidelines for coronavirus vaccine
https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/med...ne/ar-BB19mK3u

President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday that the White House could override the US Food and Drug Administration if the agency released tougher standards for the authorization of a Covid-19 vaccine, casting such a move as "political."

His comments come as the FDA considers new Covid-19 vaccine guidelines that would likely push an authorization beyond Election Day, according to three sources familiar with the situation.

Cuomo says New York to review any COVID-19 vaccine authorized by federal government
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/cu...nt/ar-BB19oa4W

(Reuters) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Thursday said the state will carry out its own review of coronavirus vaccines authorized or approved by the federal government due to concerns of politicization of the approval process.

Cuomo, a Democrat who has repeatedly criticized President Donald Trump and his administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, told reporters at a briefing he was going to form a review committee to advise the state on the safety of a vaccine.

Looks like the 50% capacity rule for restaurants in Florida is going to be lifted very soon. The article also mentions that "health experts" at the Desantis press conference stated that there shouldn't be mask mandates at schools, and Desantis wants to construct a "bill of rights" for college students denying universities the ability to penalize students for attending large parties.

Coronavirus: DeSantis wants no restrictions on restaurant hours, customers they can serve
https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/med...ve/ar-BB19otJR

Saying there is no evidence that closing or restricting restaurant operations has any impact on the spread of the virus, DeSantis said he plans to stop local officials from reducing restaurants' hours of operation or the number of customers they can serve.

“They can operate at whatever capacity they’re comfortable at,” he said of an order he plans to sign, pre-empting county officials from imposing additional rules on restaurant owners.

Florida coronavirus cases tick up in September, stalling progress
https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/wel...ss/ar-BB19ohNn

For the first time since early July, statewide numbers of new cases of the virus have increased throughout September — albeit a small uptick, nowhere near as sharp as the early summer.

And current COVID-19 hospitalizations, one of the most timely ways to measure the spread in how many people are sick, are no longer dropping sharply but have instead flattened out. In a few large counties, the count is going back up again.

Coronavirus rate stops downward slide in Hillsborough
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/co...gh/ar-BB19otpS

TAMPA — The declining rate of coronavirus infections in Hillsborough County has hit a roadblock.

The seven-day daily case rate, as of Sept. 22, stood at 86 infections per 100,000 people, the highest it had been since Sept. 2 and a 13 percent jump over a week earlier when the average daily case rate was 76 per 100,000.
