Not for that particular hospital - however if you're interested I suggest the following thread (see link below). This thread is from an epidemioligist that studies the Florida data. It was posted on Friday, January 14th. Recently Florida cases & hospitalizations have been shifting from the younger age groups to a larger percentage of the over 65 age group. This is also the kind of shift we've seen in the past Delta wave - as cases are peaking.

I thought I read on CNN (the biggest fear monger out there) that hospitals are required to test patients who come in, regardless of the reason, for Covid 19; and if they test positive, they will count as Covid hospitalized patients, even if they’re asymptomatic and they’re in the hospital for non-Covid reasons (such as hip surgery, or whatever). So the hospital report is only partially correct but can be misleading if you only see the numbers without further digging for clearer context.

Yes that's why I've been posting the daily hospitalizations from Jackson Health System in Miami. They list the Covid "with" percentage - and for the last few weeks it's been hovering right around 50%. Sarasota Memorial Hospital doesn't post this information but IMO it's probably in the same ballpark as Jackson Memorial.

Also keep in mind that there could be some gray areas involved in determining these percentages. For instance if somebody is admitted with a broken leg and then tests positive for Covid that is obviously an admitted "with" Covid and not "for" covid. But if someone is admitted with heart failure and then subsequently tests positive for Covid - they are likely admitted as "with" Covid - even though their Covid could of made their heart condition worse (than it otherwise would of been). It's also possible some patients catch Covid while they're in the hospital.

For the USA to not have a uniform way to count covid cases, hospitalizations, & deaths nationwide, is a failure by the CDC.

Heck, each hospital group in Florida counts differently, and posts results differently.

This is why I discount most of the data. IMHO its all grossly overstated.

I do pay attention to deaths-per-capita by county, & state, & country to country. That is the view from 30,000 feet, and the most telling imho.

People coming into a hospital with a broken leg that test postive for covid, should not be counted as admitted FOR covid.

If they later die of covid, then the death should be counted as being due to covid.

So many of the metrics are scewed, or are reported in a way that makes them appear as being HUGE, when they are not.

For instance, 874,000 nationwide covid deaths sounds HUGE. But there are 330,000,000 Americans, so just .0265% died of covid.

More Americans died of heart disease & stroke, but Americans are wolfing down Big Mac's & fries like there's no tomorrow.

The media is incentified to sensationalize to sell ads...which is why they exist.

Hospitals are paid $13,000 for each positive case, so they too are incentified to over-report.

Gov't is incentified to sensationalize covid, so they can increase control over the public.

If politicians (like DeSantis) question any of the over-counting, they are accused of trying to hide cases, hospitalizations, & deaths.

Some of this over-counting & sensationalizing is just built in to our free-market driven society, but some of it is purposeful, & greed-driven.

Based upon the # of people flocking here since March 2019, I'd say our area, and our state, is viewed to be amongst the best at getting things as close to right as possible.

Today's Update From Sarasota Memorial Hospital

Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Sarasota & Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice
COVID-19 Patient Update
Includes hospitalized patients who are positive for COVID-19 and those cleared of infection but still hospitalized at SMH facilities.

Total COVID inpatients today: 193 (186 yesterday)
COVID patients in ICU: 27 (26 yesterday)
% Unvaccinated Inpatients*: 61% (updated weekly on Wednesdays)

* We categorize patients as “vaccinated” once they have received the required primary dose(s) of a COVID-19 vaccine and 2 weeks have passed since the final dose. At this time, we do not require that patients have booster doses to be categorized as fully vaccinated. An increase in break-through infections is expected as the Omicron variant spreads and immunity wanes among those who are high-risk and those who have not yet gotten a booster dose. COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots are still the most effective method in preventing severe illness and hospitalization.

COVID-19 Test Results
SMH positivity rate: 24.7% (27.6% for week ending Jan. 14, 2021)

Cumulative COVID-19 Cases:
Total number of patients treated since outbreak began.
Patient admissions: 5,464 (5,414 yesterday)
Patient deaths: 555 (554 yesterday)

It's looking like Florida hospitalizations have reached a plateau. However while Tuesday is usually the reporting catch-up day after weekend lag, with the holiday yesterday I'm being cautious with the interpretation because 38 fewer hospitals reported this metric today compared to the previous 4 days.

Today's Florida Covid Hospitalizations

Florida hospital covid census from today 10,893 (-372 from yesterday)

Florida ICU covid census from today 1461 (-44 from yesterday)
