and glen probably has a couple kids who keep leaving the front door wide open. Sure that electricity bill might be horrendous, but the whole neighborhood enjoyed the cool air apparently.

(side note: If I have to utter the words "Close the door!!!" one. more. time....to the moon Alice. To. The. Moon.)

I could actually feel some heat out there today.. it's pretty brutal. Felt good after the gun show, though. They had that building like a freaking ice cube (to me).

Looking more and more likely a tropical cyclone will impact the Texas coast this week. If it's named, it'll be Don.

Hopefully I can bring the sun with me to Michigan and send all their rain down here to SA while I'm gone. That'll work perfect for me

Tropical Storm Don has formed this afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico. franklin9150 already posted the projected path, and I am also pretty much in agreement with the NHC.

Since the center of circulation formed today, it's still a little too early to forecast the details of impacts on the SA area since there is still room for changes in the track, however I will outline my original thinking. Assuming this storm continues a NWly track making landfall +/- 50 miles from Corpus, the core rains of this system will approach near or right over the San Antonio metro area. However, since this storm is going to be moving relatively fast and is fairly small in size, I don't expect rainfall totals to significant for tropical cyclone standards.

General rainfall totals of about 3 to 5 inches will be possible where the heaviest rainfall occurs near the core. The total will greatly drop as close as 50 to 100 miles north/east of the center and even closer south and west. Current track puts us on the NE side of the storm, so if it holds, we'd be seeing the bulk of the heaviest rains.

Latest NHC intensity forecast calls for a 65 mph storm just before landfall, with possibly higher winds as it approaches the coast. The intensity forecast, I think, will be subject to the greatest changes as the storm approaches. This storm has plenty of warm water, relatively low shear, and the size is small enough leaving conditions favorable for periods of rapid intensification. Therefore, I would not be surprised if this storm reaches hurricane strength prior to landfall.

Historically speaking, Hermine made landfall last year just south of Brownsville as a 60 mph tropical storm, and here in San Antonio we experienced tropical storm force winds with gusts to near hurricane strength. While it's too early to call, it is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities that we could experience wind here as well, especially given the current projected track.

If you got any plans to be on the coast, make sure you pack an emergency kit since power outages will be an issue regardless if this storm strikes as a tropical storm or hurricane. Also, be sure to listen to the latest NOAA/radio/TV updates on this approaching storm.

More updates to follow (~10 pm tonight)
