Talking about all these things folks remember sure makes me homesick! I remember all the things I have seen posted.. We moved to San Antonio in the early 50's and lived there till the 90's. Does anybody remember Randys Rodeo out on Bandera Road??? Cool Country & Western Dance place. Willie Nelson was a semi-regular performer there. Him in his shiny suits and short hair. What about The ("Internationally Famous") Farmers Daughter out on Rittiman Road? Now that was some special C & W dance place!

Default An Unknown Park

Ok. I have a really good one and hoping that someone can remember or help out.

My grandparents live on the west side of San Antonio. Every time when we would visit back in the late 70's, we would pass this area off Old Hwy 90 and W.Commerce intersection. What I remember is a huge lot, fenced in, lots of weeds and grass, and a yellow sign with lights around it that was defuncted with some letters still there, but most of them gone. I asked my father a while back what this used to be, and he told me it was a park, like a small amusement park.

I can't find anything on this as far as what it was or when it closed or how long it was opened. Does anyone by chance know where and what the location I am referring to? Was this a kiddie park like on Broadway? I've visited the place now and its now occupied by a church.

Does anyone remember the Tiners Ice Cream Trucks that would make the neighborhood routes? We had one in Glenoaks Park.
Remember trash collection in SA EVERYDAY! Big old ugly yellow cheese wagon trash trucks. This was mid 50s.
Oh and the Borden Milk routes that left fresh milk sitting on the door step and it NEVER went sour.

My uncle, Curtis Short known as Cowboy Shorty, worked at KBOP in Plesanton Texas in the late 50s and early 60s with Willie Nelson. Always had nice things to say about him.
Listening to all that C&W that my uncle would play made me turn the other way to R&R.

That's some things you don't see much of anymore. Real ice cream trucks and milkmen. I guess people don't want or need their milk delivered anymore and the "ice cream trucks" now sell everything, curly fries, toys, hotdogs, drugs........

Default Grissom Road -- Named for Gus?

Howdy! First post... didn't see this question in the forum yet...

Anyone know if Grissom Road is named for my favorite astronaut, Gus Grissom?

Anybody in the forum go to Edward White elementary school and care to share a story or two?

Thanks,

John

I just stumbled onto a site with some great photos of old urban factories and buildings. Some in SA some not but all I think are in Texas. I don't know who the photographer is but I like their style. Wonderful pics.
