I know growing up (70's) we pumped the music pretty loud in the cars or boom boxes but I have to think back and all the rock groups were pretty tame as far as lyrics.
I hear the younger people down here hanging in the parking lots and driving around town with their music pretty loud like we did when we were young but the vulgarity of the lyrics blows me away, it is not just a few lyrics but a constant flow of lines throughout the song.
If they were blaring some other music genre pretty loud I would most likely shrug my shoulders but with some of the rap music if I am with my 12 year old twins I am going to feel damn uncomfortable as I do now when we pull along side someone at a light that has some pretty vulgar music blaring.
It's hard to believe that back around 1985 Tipper Gore convened a senate hearing over her displeasure with some risque lyrics that were on the Prince album she bought for her daughter.
The contents of most albums during the 80's was pretty tame compared to today.
Newport needs to hire the same consultant Clearwater Beach Florida did when they had the same problem. Their ideas had Clearwater Beach cleaned up w/in 1 year.
1 idea was to pass a noise ordinance, then strictly enforce it w/ huge fines.
2nd idea was to close off the main pedestrian-heavy streets during popular times to vehicular traffic.

Bingo! But, it takes the will of the political leadership to pull it off. The key isn't the noise ordinances. Most cities & towns have those. The key is putting teeth in the enforcement.

You're assuming there's actually a problem. Note that nobody else has mentioned having had a similar experience in Newport.
A post about three dudes playing loud music one day in Newport? What is the point?
