While McCoy's attendance is at or near the top for AAA, I'm not aware of them ever selling out. That to me says the capacity is fine in its current state. Give it a fresh coat of paint and call it a night.
McCoy is third from the bottom in the IL right now averaging just over 4,600 per game, but last Saturday's game sold out nearly a week in advance and Sunday was close to capacity. That number should be improving as school gets out and the weather improves. It needs more than just paint - there are some structural issues at the joints where the 1999 additions meet the old structure - but it could be refreshed for way less than $68 million.
It has been only successful because the teams have had had an extremely good run. Fiscally, it's overall not a good stadium and the amenities and comfort absolutely stink.
Here's some advice, dude: if you know nothing about the subject being discussed, it's better to sit back and learn rather than participate and embarrass yourself.
So are they getting closer to being the WooSox near Kelley Square? I hope they can stay in RI...because McCoy will be too big for lower levels of baseball. I'm in New Britain, CT getting outdrawn by the freakin' Hartford Yard Goats! New Britain Stadium holds about 6, 250 or so. Haven't seen a bonafide sellout since the Rock Cats days of 2015 and earlier.
I never had issue with the comfort or amenities. It's minor league folks! While McCoy's attendance is at or near the top for AAA, I'm not aware of them ever selling out. That to me says the capacity is fine in its current state. Give it a fresh coat of paint and call it a night.
yes, it is minor league and all of minor league attendance, any sport, is based on promotion. Last year they had 11 sellouts, over 10,500 is considered a sell out, on weekends with fireworks. They have already had 2 sellouts again this year, weekend and fireworks. They are no where near a top anything in attendance but they are far from last place. they even outdrew the brand new AA Hartford team last year, yet the Pawsox had a down year in attendance due in part because of 7 games not made up.
From 1999 to 2011 under the previous management, Pawtucket was drawing some 600k per season with an all time high of 688,421 in 2005. Big crowds have come out to McCoy in the past. I am sure with the proper marketing and PR (once the negative feeling about present ownership have dissipated), that could happen once again.
That's 1982. 2005 was Youkilis and Pedroia - not too far removed from the present, since one of those guys just played at McCoy a month ago.
Just over 5,300 at tonight's double header. The commentators on WHJJ said they're expecting huge crowds again this weekend. I also noticed an interesting phenomenon - when the sun sets, people migrate away from the seats on the first base line to escape the glare. That's roughly the time the Worcester Telegram photographer took a shot of the stands on the first base line to "prove" the attendance numbers were inflated.
All reports I've seen about the new financing bill seem to indicate that the owners aren't even involved in the discussions. And why would they be, when Worcester is offering them a deal at a third of the price?
