Having grown up in Pawtucket, I am with you. I may have ties to Worcester but the hurt and ill feeling would likely keep me away from any WooSox game should they move there. I don't think I am in the minority for people living in the Providence metro area that will feel this way. The hard feelings toward PawSox management's stadium demands in recent years have had a noticeable effect on attendance already for games at McCoy. I would think a move out would only intensify the hostility. If PawSox management think the Providence market resident will still go to games in large volumes and boost attendance in the much smaller Worcester market, they most likely will be very disappointed.
Worcester is also not a place many in this area ever travel to. Given Rhode Islander's views on what constitutes a long drive, Worcester might also be too far away in their minds. I can still recall my mother considering a drive from Pawtucket to Narragansett being too much for a day trip. Her attitude still prevails with many.
I like Worcester and it's not a bad drive, but the at-grade crossings with traffic lights on 146 don't make it one I'm enthusiastic to do. It would definitely cut down on the number of games I attend. I agree much of the PVD area isn't going to follow the team. They would effectively be moving to a different market.
All this hand wringing and despair over a minor league outfit? Really??? Good lord. Most states don't even know they have a silly minor league team to begin with. Nevermind losing sleep and bending over backwards for one. Embarrassing.

Shades of Planetoid?
We are not most states. And most states don't have our story.
Baseball has a long, rich history in Rhode Island. Once upon a time, the Providence Grays were a National league baseball club; they played and won what was the first group of games called the world series (though MLB likes to recognize a much later series as the "first"). The Grays played at the Messer Street grounds right in the Armory District, here in Providence.
Did I mention that the Pawtucket Red Sox have the legal rights to the name Providence Grays?
Really, no place in America has the deep love for baseball like New England does. The Boston Red Sox are an historical organization. Fenway Park is an historical baseball stadium. And there is an historical bond between the Major League club and Rhode Island.
It's no secret that I think the current ownership has manipulated our state terribly in all of their machinations to build a new baseball stadium. But I firmly believe that the ownership group does have a respect for baseball history, for Red Sox history. And the yarn of Red Sox history is inextricably woven with Rhode Island. They would be baseball criminals if they were to pack up the club and leave, especially after they've extracted public funding for a new stadium over a loud chorus of boos. I don't think they want to remembered for killing baseball in Rhode Island. And if they move to Worcester, I think few Rhode Islanders will be attending WoeSox games.

Play me a violin wll ya? Who gives a ****? Money talks and you know what walks. It's 2018. Enough with nostalgia and bedtime stories. That don't pay the bills nowadays. It's a cold world. Get with the times or get left behind.....this state better learn before it's too late.

I think most Rhode Islanders actually share this sentiment. The Pawsox do have a devoted fan base, but many others here could care less what happens to them. And, are rather embarrassed with how this issue seems to have dominated the state's political debate.

Exactly. I grew up in Pawtucket and went to St Raphael's just blocks from McCoy. I still go to the fireworks every year as my mother lives in Pawtucket still and we bring our daughters to see her often. I have good memories from the park at games and from the fireworks shows. However, I live in South County now and I don't know anyone in my neighborhood or inner circle who goes to any games or even care they exist lol. I find the Newport Gulls more interesting and enjoyable tbh.
