I couldn't sleep at night if I paid 195.00 for a can opener!
I have NO idea why they are asking these prices when not long ago you could buy one for about 40.00.
I assume they're not made any more which would account for the price being so high.
Funny, I was opening a can of crushed tomatoes yesterday; thinking to myself I can't remember the last time we had an electric can opener. I've been with my hub for 20 years, I know I had one when I moved in with him but when it died we didn't replace it because we don't open many cans.
The one I like is the side edge but they were hard to find last time I looked for one
I've never owned an electric opener, not sure I'd even want to with that little cutting wheel not able to be thoroughly washed. I guess you could clean it with alcohol after every can or something, but it seems like old nasty food would get stuck between the wheel and whatever sort of bearing or gears it has. I like being able to throw it in soapy water or the dishwasher. I get that it's hard for someone with arthritis to use a manual opener. My sister in law has RA and she has a can opener that stands 5'9" and answers to "John"

On our electric, there's an external wheel to turn the can, but it doesn't make any contact with the food. The cutting part is on a removable arm, so it can be dropped in to the dishwasher.

As I said, I've never had one. All the ones I've seen don't come apart without a screwdriver, so it sounds like at least the one you have has addressed this issue.
I tried that one but it was leaving fine hair like metal shavings on my counter and I saw them on top of some beans so we returned it
Reading the 1 star reviews is always helpful at Amazon. Many found those shards of metal, sometimes in the food, so I would not buy it.
