I can't remember the last time I used a can opener. What a mess, with that drippy lid to get rid of and what if you don't use the entire contents of the can?

I don't buy much food in cans, anyway. Soups I buy in pourable shelf-stable cartons, very little mess. I don't care that they're not easily recyclable. (Yes, I am that person who is destroying the Earth one soup carton at a time.)

https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grip...63001361&psc=1

eradicates the sharp edge of the can top - removes the can top so it is smooth without jagged edges

also easy to use and smooth - doesn't take strength to use (if your hand can work the smooth turner)

been using it for years - very safe because there are no sharp jagged edges to the can top

I switched to hand turned can openers that fit in the drawer when not in use. 1. counter space and 2. power outage during hurricanes etc made it just practical to use them all the time.

but i do understand the hand hurting thing

I do have an old electric can opener that works okay, but it splashes the contents all over the counter or on my sleeve, so I hate using it.
I prefer the ring pull tops as well; however, I've had several that the ring snapped off and ended up using the hand held opener.

It removes the lid without leaving a sharp edge.
I've been using a similar one (does the same thing - removes the lid without leaving a sharp edge) for at least the past 25 years; one side effect I like is that the removed lid can be used as a cover for the can (in case, for instance, you don't use up the entire contents - just put the "cover" back on and stash it in the fridge until the next meal, or next day).

We use a swing away hand held. I can't get the knack of the electric ones. OP I hope you can find what you need.

This one looks pretty good:

Or, if you need a "space saver" variety (cabinet undermount, freeing up the counter space)

I think today I'll get one that sits on the counter, I've been fighting that because I don't have a lot of counter space. I was talking to a group of people at our clubhouse Friday evening and they all agreed they the like space saver. One person said they thought they were going to stop making them and that's why the increase but it makes no sense....at least not to me.
You may be able to find an older brand on ebay or such. I found a manual old-time can opener (I know that's not what you're wanting) and it was obviously much heavier and better made than what you see now. It's worth a look.

Yep, that's what I've always used as well, and still do.
