Also, make sure you visit Virginia City when you come up. It’s the Wild Wild West all preserved for you to enjoy in your cowboy hat!

And of course you need to do a little drive up to Lake Tahoe, it should be thawed out by June

The drive around Lake Tahoe should start going up Mt Rose Hwy. The views coming down to the lake are incredible. We come down Spooner Summit into Carson and on occasion the Kingsbury Grade to remember our wedding day.

Kind sounds similar to Loveland, CO. Lots of new young people flooding the area that likely can't spell RODEO. More winter, likely closer to Lovelands too. Flying up there for a late winter visit sure makes sense.

Some have even said to us "the hotter the better". However, they seem not to even want any rain here.

I think a lot of ppl have forgotten that Vegas & Henderson are in the MOJAVE DESERT. I grew up there. The summers will always be HOT, triple digits, the winters are windy & cold. I know the summer in Henderson was too hot for you, but it's just normal high desert weather.

Where you want to go, Reno & CC are in thr Great Basin, a entirely different climate, so you really need to research if that is the climate for you.

Reno & CC will be much cooler and not as hot as Vegas & Henderson.

Yes, I know that, but does bb2 know? He might not want another short-term move.

Hopefully they will find out and learn from their past experiences.

DEN > LAS = <$100RT during airfare sales. (I've seen it for under $50 RT, but often $39 each way ~ (1-2) fills of gas in 'the-rig'

Only ONE person needs to go (the most sensitive to weather and conditions and desires for home)

Even cheaper to fly to Reno.

The last rental car in LAS (last month) we got was $38 / day (and you can sleep in it). Reno I've got $19/ day rental cars (and slept in them there too)

The quest and the trek need not be complicated. A weekend will discover 48 hrs of first hand data. For the 'non-employed' person.... What's a day or 2 out of their life? (Vs the cost of a move / security deposits, utilities) Probably wastes more than a couple days just to box up the kitchen stuff.

When we target an info gathering trip, we 'divide-and-conquer'. Split up and drill down, then meet for supper to discuss the details we each discovered. Can hit about 10 - 20 places each / day. (Apartments, stores, services, venues) A 'Spreadsheet' helps a lot! We have one that includes WY, CO, ID, SD places we've searched. Reno Sparks was a very short visit... Spouse said... 'nope, I won't even come and visit you here!' OK, check that one off and shelve it for a later 'solo' date.

I priced out the entire cost of a three day trip to Reno earlier in this thread. Basically, a three day weekend could be done for under $300, including RT air, rental car, and a casino hotel room.

Babyboomers2 thanked me for my suggestion but said he isn't interested. They'll drive up for a week in June (when the Reno Rodeo is) and figure everything out then.

At that point, if the Reno area isn't a fit, they'll have two months to find somewhere else to move before their lease in Henderson expires, so I assume they have a back up plan of some sort.

Or not.
