People have repeatedly told you this, but you're not going to like the local culture/flavor of Reno and you aren't going to be able to afford the Carson Valley. I still don't know why you aren't considering Fallon, Fernley, or even Dayton because they are more of what you're looking for.
We've read, and been told, that the fastest growing job centers in Nevada are Henderson/Las Vegas. Las Vegas has over 3 million residents and Henderson has over 300,000 residents. Neither Reno or Carson City come close to that! And, we wouldn't mind having the Sierra Mountain Range and Lake Tahoe at our backdoor. In fact, we'd love it.

If Fallon, Fernley, Dayton has apartment living, we'd consider it. We know that Carson City and Reno does. And, they are within driving distance from either Reno or Carson City, which would be great for us.

Sort of like what Forest Gump said, just before ending his running experience in the movie, "I'm tired, so I think I'll go home now".

Well, I think we've heard enough now, so it's time for us to leave. We want to thank all of you for your replies, whether we liked them or not. Again, THANKS!

Before you abandon Henderson, you should take a drive up to Mount Charleston to scratch your itch for snow and pine trees.

Mount Charleston is about the same distance from Henderson as Lake Tahoe is from Reno.

Thanks, but we will wait until we can go into the Sierra Mountains and Lake Tahoe.

BB2,
You might have missed these video drive throughs of Carson City and Reno that I posted earlier. They might be helpful for you and your wife to get an idea of what both areas look like:

On your June trip, consider taking 395 either going or coming from Reno and Carson City. It'll take a little longer than taking 95 all the way but it will give you a little taste of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and their distance. Much prettier drive than 95.

BB2,

If you and Mrs. BB2 decide that Northern Nevada isn't right for you on your trip in June, what is your backup plan?

Are you checking out any other places as well?

If you do take 395, you might want to check out Bishop. Great little town if you're pining for pine covered mountains, snow, and easy access to the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Thanks for the two videos. As far as the Reno one goes, we wouldn't be living downtown Reno. The trees and pine trees are more to our liking than the palm trees here. Carson City looks great, if we can find an apartment there.

And, this trip were taking in June, isn't a sightseeing trip, so taking the 95 would be better for us. Anyway, we have to drive south, past Barstow, to get to the 395. That's just to "out of the way" for us. We know what mountains are like. We went into both Rocky Mountain NP numerous times for the "rut", as well as driving thru Yellowstone NP. In fact, we've driven on Trail Ridge Road to the highest paved point in North America, in Rocky Mountain NP. IOW, to the top and down the other side. Up from Estes Park and down to Grand Lake.

Do we have a back-up plan for moving? Nope, afraid not. But, without even seeing Carson City and Reno, they'd be better for us than here. No matter what others have said to us here. All we know is, "we will figure it out and GO. Just by looking at both videos, the area is much, much more to what we like than here.

Again, thanks for the videos.

I think you will like Carson City or Reno better than Henderson. Do be advised on those videos they must have been made on a Sunday morning, early. I've never seen that small amount of traffic on the roads in the areas.

It's still high desert in the area, so don't expect a lot of pine trees in your immediate view. Lots of sagebrush right outside of the towns/cities if it isn't irrigated. I'm still sure it's better than Henderson/Las Vegas.
