Should Christianity throw out the book of Revelations? (prophecy, atheist, gospel)

I know Christianity is having trouble staying relevant. One thing that would help is getting rid of the book of Revelations. Nothing wrong with saying, "Hey, I know we originally included this book after a lot of debate over whether it belonged in the Bible, but we've rethought this issue and decided that the book is bogus. No way is any of the stuff in that book going to happen. There aren't going to be 144,000 Christian males saved in the end. That would be ridiculous."

This is a question that only an atheist would ask.
This is one of those few cases where typical fundamentalist "slippery slope" concerns are actually true. There is so much "boat anchor" material that the Bible would be better off without that I can't see where it would stop. You start with the Revelation, you apply Jeffersonian scissors to the miracle accounts, you knock out the inharmonioius gospel accounts, and so on ... before long, what would be left?
Besides it would prompt people to THINK and that is never a Good Thing for theism.

Well, it's actually 144, 000 Jewish male virgins that are sealed for G-d to proslytize the Jews...
Jesus said on Revelations 22:18-19...``I any man will add to these things , God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book ......And if any man will take away from these words of this prophecy . God will take away his part out of the book of life , and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book ``..................See God said he will curse any one who throws out the book of Revelations, so it is a no win situation
Simply put, Revelation is a 1st Century man's attempt to describe the rise of a dictator and the effects of WWIII, which nearly causes the annihilation of the human race.

I am always non-plussed when ANYONE claims to understand Revelation, simple or otherwise.
