To say politics (HB2, constitutional meddling and voter ID) didn't matter to Apple and Cook social sensitive views we are kidding ourselves.
Sure Austin is "cooler" attracts more millennials and has the 7,000 apple employees already there. Yet still Apple took a very close look at Wake County before being turned away. Also at this point it is fair to say that incentives were not the critical factor..
Data brought them here, politics turned them away. It is okay to loose but let's be honest with ourselves

Chung declined to outline what the state offered Apple before it turned to Texas (“Next question,” he said), but Boyd theorizes social politics – not just incentives and talent – may have played into the decision.
“Social policy plays a role in economic development today,” he said, referencing measures on HB2 and voter ID.
“Uncertainty is not great for economic development,” Cole said, not mentioning Apple or Amazon directly. “So companies don’t want to have surprises, and John’s right. The social policy area is an area of concern.”

I think most people realize that they considered the politics. It would be silly to assume they didn't consider it at all. But, at the end of the day, economics made this decision for them. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in Texas, either.

I have plans to move back to Raleigh eventually from Dallas and trust me it's a blessing in disguise that Apple didn't move to Raleigh/Durham. Austin although very similar to Raleigh and also fast growing has a cost of living that has gotten out of control. I really don't want that for RDU. Also the traffic in Austin is worse than the triangle by multitudes and arguably worse than many cities of similar sizes as they have not done a good job keeping up with infrastructure. But the good news is other Companies in the IT and related industries are definitely considering RDU for future moves.

Do other companies in IT and related industries have less traffic than Apple?

They are just smaller companies so a few hundred here and there spread throughout town is a different ballgame than thousands at once for one large campus. When a company the size of Apple hits your town the growth ripple effects and apartment and housing costs go bonkers. For instance toyota headquarters moved to Dallas all at once earlier this year and the real estate market is still reeling. 5,000 folks all at once. You could literally tell the difference in traffic the week after they opened during rush hours.
