U.S. suspends Haitian deportations as federal, Florida officials prepare for potential migration of earthquake victims fleeing devastated country by boat.

this is the stuff that i don't understand. why would we be rushing aid and supplies to help them in their country and then turn around and bring them here?

I hear ya brother, it sounds like you are coming to the darkside.

I understand the tax argument but this is an extrodinary event that extra money may help. I also understand people who are wary of donating to certain organizations. But I think if you donate to a mainstream organization, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Dr. without Borders the money will find the right hands.

I believe every tax paying citizen already has. So no I do not intend to donate to the Haiti relief fund.
I donate to other noble charities.
Disabled veteran charities
Charity to help disabled vets to go hunting.
SAFE- a charity that helps children with Autism
Operation Smile- A charity that travels to 3rd world countries to repair cleft lips.
Haiti is already getting 100 million from Uncle SAM. They have an aircraft carrier and its task force. They have the 82nd . They also have the help of the rest of the world. They really don't need my help.

I can't see it getting to the people, so no. The government is corrupt and will most likely intercept money and goods coming in.

Is someone trying to force you to contribute? I missed the memo if that's true.

No but there are people who love to attack those who refrain from doing so.

It doesn't matter if $100 million of Obama's pledge came from a billion people or 10 people. It's $100 million. This is not a competition of the Joneses to see who can give more. If any of our taxdollars even makes it through to directly assist in the lives of the people of Haiti, it will be a relief.

Right now doctors and nurses who volunteer in Haiti are leaving in droves due to security concerns. All the crime and violence that was there before the earthquake, is there to stay and keep out people who want to help.

So people are dying anyway. It is very sad and terribly unfortunate.

Before the earthquake Haitians were beset by crime and violence and eating cakes made of clay. Millions or billions of money poured in from the world over the yrs have not changed that....!

I suggest that Haiti be taken over by the UN so the country can be re-created out of the rubble. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Forget handing the $ over to Haiti's corrupt govt and watch them mismanage, squander, and pocket the millions, now billions.

A takeover will save $ in the long run, and will help the people for good.

Absolutely. Otherwise - what? Is Haiti going to become another Afghanistan for the U.S. to babysit?
