That is just the figure from the U.S. Govt, right?

Does not include 1,000's of private U.S. charities and the private donations of millions of Americans.

Not sure I understand why people think it is a "no brainer" to use tax dollars to aid in catastrophes.

Awesome! Lets just give more taxpayer money to a country that is just going to waste it! Some of that money better go towards a few birth control clinics. American's are blindly giving their money to a people who WILL use it for toilet paper, if that. Haitians are people who are completely dependent on other humans for survival. Until they start helping THEMSELVES in some way, they won't get any money out of my pocket book.

But you dont understand.. we NEED to give this money to them to pump up their failed governmental policies because some want our country to turn into being just like theirs.

Government being responsible for EVERYTHING while accomplishing NOTHING.. yep, that'll be america soon..

I work with several Haitians in my home state. Many of them are worried sick about their families and friends. They left Haiti for America for a better life. They work hard, and they care about their future.

I don't know about the politics of Haiti ( probably a lot of corruption) but I can say, when you have the worst earthquake in 200 years, where more than 50,000 have died and countless others are missing and buried under rubble ( some of them Americans who came on mission trips to help the needy), you need to have some kind of compassion.

Thank God I wasn't born there-and thank God, you weren't either.

How much does it cost to have an aircraft carrier parked off the beach per day? How much for all those flights ops ? How much for the carriers escorts?
That 100 million will soon be a drop in the bucket.
And yet. We have an estimated 200,000 to 500,000 homeless americans. Where is the frantic energy to help our own lost souls?
We have Native American Tribes who are hurting and were it not for charity they would starve. Where is the frantic energy to help them?
That is what sickens me about reporters and elected reps. They have compassion for anyone and everyone in times of crisis. Everyone except our own.
