Keep your pennies.

It is not that 'some argue', because the 'argument' came from Rush Limbaugh who is on a mission to convince as many as possible to NOT help the victims. You are living proof that some people do as he says.

We sent our entire emergency food supply, which we keep for hurricanes or other emergencies. It was a trunk-full of canned food.

A lot of people donate $ because they want to "DO SOMETHING". It's a natural reaction. I just hope all that $ is going to get used efficiently.

Do I feel guilty not donating? No. Do I wish I could do something? Of course, because I know more $ is not the solution to Haiti's problem.
It may not be the solution, but it's not intended to be...It is disaster relief to help rebuild....You know the Red Cross takes donations as small as $10.00, and if just half of the people in the US donated only that it would be a big help....The cost of a pizza is too rich for you?

I've tried twice to donate to the Canadian Red Cross today, but so far have failed.....The web servers were overloaded.

Here is what's happening in Canada.

Quote:
TORONTO — Millions of dollars in donations and pledges were pouring in to Canadian aid agencies Thursday for disaster relief in earthquake-shattered Haiti - so much that their web servers teetered on the brink of collapse.
The Canadian government is earmarking up to $50 million to match Canadians' donations to charities aiding relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti. My province (BC) is also matching donations dollar for dollar. All of the other provinces are also donating generous sums.

Two Canadian warships loaded with construction materials, water and first aid kits steamed out of Halifax on Thursday bound for Haiti. HMCS Halifax and HMCS Athabaskan are part of a massive international humanitarian effort for the earthquake-ravaged country

Back in Feb 2008 Canada pledged $555 million in aid to Haiti that were earmarked to help build roads, police precincts and implement social and economic programs. These funds are paid in increments until 2011.

Two good secure place to donate are the Red Cross and World Vision....Donations can be made online....That is if their servers are not bogged down.

Yes, you have carried 30 cents to the pot. Be proud.

Absolutely. Limbaugh's 'argument' (and I use that word loosely) is a cruel and selfish attempt to justify ignoring the plight of other human beings while cravenly using a tragedy to continue to take cheap pot-shots at someone he doesn't like.

100 Million dollars is less that .50 cents per American citizen. I think I can spare a bit more than .50cents to assist those who have been affected by this earthquake.

Thanks for the thread. Bill Clinton has done more as an Ex Pres. than he did while in office.

I contributed $50 to the Clinton Haiti Fund and will probably send another $50 in a day to someone like the Red Cross.

Check out The Clinton Foundation and make a donation if possible.

I donate yearly to the Red Cross and Salvation Army but earmark it for local relief efforts. But I've donated for Katrina, 9/11, the midwest floods, the tsunami and will donate again for the Haitians. I'll go through a religion based organization this time, though. I think there's less chance the money will get pissed away through red tape or go where it isn't needed. The US government is the last place I'd expect money to be wisely spent. Remember the $400 hammers and $1,000 toilet seats?
You have the liberal mentaility: "Oh those poor people, the government will help them so I don't have to." and the neoconservative mentality: " Let them help themselves", basically both coming from lack of compassion and self serving self absorption.
But let's see companies and Hollywood bigwigs and politicians start ponying up checks of $ 100,000 to $1,000,000 and then actually pay it. We can't just have the working class pay the bills while the elitist privileged folks have fancy dinners and gala events for charity and then pay next to nothing themselves.

Not making any additional donation, as Obama made the donation for me, with my tax dollars.

But considering about 45% of American citizens pay no taxes and just take from the government, your statement isn't correct.
