They're already proposing those taxes in NYS and people are flipping out over them. I think there should be a "fat tax" as well as a cigarette one.
There should be more emphasis on how much you pay for health insurance by how much you do for yourself. I think someone who smokes and drinks and comes in the Dr.'s office at 300 lbs should be paying a heck of a lot more than me for health insurance.
At least I can't smell my neighbors BO from their weight like I can smell them chain smoking. When someone is smoking so much that the neighbors on all sides of them have to close their windows it's way too much.
They've been close to ten here for a while, so it's kind of hilarious for me to see people complaining about $5 or $6.
States like mine Florida are considered low income states as compared to places like New England and California.Anybody that makes over 60k a year in Fl is upper income or at least considered doing well, that is basically poverty level in NY or Cali.
A house in my area 2000 sqft 4/2 with double car garage made 2 or 3 years ago are going for 120k and even less,40 miles south and the price almost doubles but you can't buy a shack for that in NE or Cali.
And we don't have some of the crazy liberal induced taxes like you do.
It was $30 a carton (ten packs),today it is $38.I hear people saying it is going to be over $60 a carton but that can't be right?$60 for carton sounds too high,I hear it was only suppose to be a 70 cent increases per pack starting April 1st but prices have already increased?
I know I bought cigarettes today (2 cartons) in Ohio. My brand is $38 a carton. The owner of the cigarette store told me he was raising prices before April 1st and that is what distributors do. I asked how much he was raising them and he said he didn't know yet but would be doing it tomorrow. That doesn't make sense, he's going to raise them, but doesn't know how much. Is it legal for them to raise prices before April 1st?? I'm thinking of checking on this with the State. The infor posted at the store had the details of approximately $7.00-$8.00 increase per carton and 75 cents to 80 cents per pack. Goodness I think I need to quit. I don't even want to think of the prices they will be in N.Y. and Alaska. I was paying $64 a carton in Alaska and that was almost a year ago.

It depends on if you are "signed" with Phillip Morris or not....we aren't because they require you to carry a full product line and most of the crap won't sell....We fly through Reds,Lights and Menthols, but the rest would just go stale on the shelf and very few would move.Heck,we are only clearing $4 on a CARTON so they are really more of a pain than anything.....if we jacked our prices I would feel bad.No win deal for me.
