"CVS, the nation's second largest pharmacy chain, said Wednesday that it would stop selling all cigarettes and tobacco products nationwide by October, saying they have no place in a drugstore company that is trying to become more of a health-care provider.

The news is another blow to the $100 billion tobacco industry that is wrestling with slumping sales, rising taxes, widening smoking bans and a resurgence of public information campaigns highlighting the perils of smoking."

Makes sense to stop selling cigarettes. However, I'm sure investors are not exactly happy that the company is foregoing $2B in annual revenues.

It's their business and they can sell (or not sell) whatever products they want.

However, customer's who wish to buy tobacco will merely go to establishments that do.

It's their choice. But as others have stated, if I want to buy cigarettes, I'll go elsewhere.

And it sounded like they are still struggling to come up with something to replace that and still generate that kind of revenue.

They want to become a "health care provider" is what executives said.
They better get rid of all that candy and soda as well then.

It's not the Republicans who want to force bakeries to sell gay wedding cakes and gay cupcakes.

And not screw up my prescriptions 3 out of every 5 times. I'd changed but unfortunately my insurer has a supplier agreement with them so I and about 15000 other people are stuck.
