Moreover, all these NATO's efforts are rather useless. What are they for? For defending from Russian nuclear attack? there is no use in sending this attack over the Czech and Europe. Open your globe and see that Russia has the direct border with the US on Far East and nothing would prevent those bombs from setting off from there... Moreover!! Nobody's going to!
They'd better spend all these money, oh no, !your money!, for something helpful... charity for instance...
If anyone should worry about the far east it is russia. Historically, it has be shown that russia only lost from the east, The mongols and their general Subetai raped them coming the east and in the winter! the Japanese destoryed both their pacific and Atlantic fleets in the Japanese-Russian war.
NATO is not useless. it's a preventative measure that broke up the soviet Union without firing a shot. Sun tzu stated that the greatest general is the one that fights no battles but wins the war. NATO did that in the cold war. it can do it again. It was never meant to be used to fight as you can see how uncoordinated in afghanistan.

It may have broken up the Soviet Union but Russia was intact and that was the core of the problem. They have reconstituted and today is a reflection of a lack of anticipation and planning for the future. Before anyone says that a particular politician saw it coming I suggest you ask the following:
If they saw it coming, did they also support tying our forces down elsewhere so we would be unable to respond now?
I won`t write here any more, sombies made me mad.
Bob Dylan write good song "Masters of War".
It is necessary to hear to it all and to think of Kandoliza, Bush, Dick Cheiny and the John McCain.
Remember both the missle defense system in the Czech Republic and Poland need to be approved by Parliament in each country. Prior to the offensive there was widespread majority public support against it in each country and after this it will probably only grow. Each government has a narrow hold on power and I have posted links (other threads) saying it is likey neither parliament will approve. Also not all of NATO is in favor of and most noticeably the support is weaker in Western Europe. Russia has sent a strong message about approving it to both countries. Do you really think Iran is targeting Poland or The Czech Republic in any scenario?
Good point. I wasn't sure if the missile defense required approval by the Parliament. If it's put to public referendum..forget it. If Obama wins this November, the push to construct the shield will really slow down. Obviously this shield is designed against the Russians...and I'm not sure why. Even if we place a couple hundred interceptors, Russia could easily swamp the system. So, it's not a strategic edge for NATO, its more of an irritant for Moscow. I find it funny that the armchair warriors that post on here truly believe that this system is a defense against Iran. First, Iran does not possess the technology, and second, the Russians offered us a base in south Asia for the system. So it has little do with Iran and more to do with poking a stick at Russia.....something we've done quite well since the breakup of the USSR.

But respond to what? Everyone knows that a direct military confrontation with Russia could easily escalate into a nuclear exchange..something nobody on both sides wants.
