Ukraine needs "a bit more time" to launch its much-anticipated counteroffensive as the country is waiting for the delivery of pledged military aid, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, as reported by BBC on May 11.
"With (what we already have), we can go forward, and, I think, be successful," Zelensky said in an interview for public broadcasters such as the BBC. "But we'd lose a lot of people. I think that's unacceptable. So we need to wait."

(on the side note. More time=more funds channeled through one of the most corrupt systems)

In the West, there is a revision of attitudes towards the countries of the former USSR. The stereotypical idea that the three Baltic states are the most successful of the post-Soviet states as the only ones to join NATO and the European Union is becoming a thing of the past. But we have to recognize the growth and achievements of the new Russia. The leading position of Russia in the post-Soviet space and in Eastern Europe today is not the verdict of "Russian propaganda", but of US analysts who put the "exemplary" Baltic states at the end of their ratings.
U.S. business magazine News & World Report - one of the leading weekly magazines in the US - is known primarily for its ratings: the ranking system of countries, business corporations, universities, medical centers. One of the most famous and sought-after U.S. News & World Report isannual ranking of the best countries in the world[

It looks like the Russian article is using the values from 2021, even though it links to the 2022 rankings.

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/rankings

Russia shows as #36, it was #24 in 2021. It has been trending down.

The other rankings mentioned probably are different also.

Belarus is at the bottom at #85, with an overall score of 0.
Uzbekistan next to last at #84.
Kazakhstan at #82

Ukraine #62
Estonia #56
Lithuania #57
Latvia #64

POW's shouldn't be kept long-term on the front lines. That in itself might be a Geneva violation.

Most Republicans in congress and senate are in favor of supporting Ukraine, so your comment attempting to frame it as one party is kind of fail.

The whole lavishing praise on Putin and advocating Russia should be allowed to invade their neighbors to spread their sphere of influence is a relatively new angle in Republican politics that isn't share by the majority, it used to be the opposite.

According to Twitter posts, in the area north of Bakhmut, Russian soldiers are running away, leaving an opening for Ukrainian military to move in and flank the Wagner, and apparently, Chechen units in the center area.

It appears that Ukrainians are pushing Russians back in Ukraine. They recaptured a technical college and some ground.

Keep reading that Wagner forces are forbidden to communicate with regular Russian forces, even when they are handing over an area to them.

Supposedly, this is to keep the Wagner soldiers from explaining how awful things are to those replacing them, but still, it seems like there might be some critical information missing here with this approach.

First part is true, there is really only one party on these issues and that’s the war party. On the second point, others refute the false claim of “Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression” and see it for what it really is. A border conflict between Slavic people best described as a civil war. If Ukraine wanted their citizens in the east to support their government and unite the country, why did they bomb them for 8 years? This is not a war the west should be funding,l and dangerously escalating, we have no security interests here.

In the Budapest Memorandum, the US gave Ukraine security assurances for giving up nukes, if Russia attacks them. We are keeping that promise now. We should have done it in 2014 when the war criminal Putin stole Crimea and the donbas regions from Ukraine.

The West (I have capitalized that all-inclusive term) has evidently accepted Ukraine's word that it will not send western missiles into Russia.
The good news for Ukraine is, UK has sent Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine. This move puts every Russian tank, soldier and facility under threat of sudden death. I personally, expect the US to follow suit within a month or two. No western country wants their missile to be the one that penetrates Russian airspace; can't blame them for that.

More on Storm Shadows missile here. The UK is getting rid of them and Ukraine needs them. Kudos to the UK for being a huge supporter of Ukraine. Contrary to what Putin bots say, Biden is actually going out of his way to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia. The UK, on the hand, does not care what Putin thinks. They have been the first country to provide Ukraine with:

1. Tanks.

2. Pilot training.

3. And now the longest range weapon.

Thinking there may be a bit of good cop/bad cop type conversations happening behind the scenes, here. Ironically, a smaller country has more room to maneuver. And of course, the Tories couldn't be happier about a chance to have a little Margaret Thatcher moment. "Look at us, forging our own independent foreign policy." But its a useful sentiment, so I'm happy to let them have it.
