If he'd tried to light the device, that would have been a tipoff. Plugging it in, though... well...maybe...that is suspect, but also leaves room for doubt.

I tend to think that might have been the goal.
Break the rules at school he gets a trip to the WH. Seems our President would realize he is being selective in who he finds has talent and gives them an invite.

Ahmed's dad is very proud of his son, so proud he blames the school.

If you thought for a second that it was a bomb, would you allow him to plug it in?

The motive was to provoke and cry racism. It's simple as that.

I'm getting the sneaking feeling that the whole "idea" for bringing his clock to school was his fathers idea. The whole story doesn't make much sense and the reaction of the father has been odd. He pulls all of his kids out of school and plans on taking his son to Mecca instead. Really?

The school apparently knew the clock wasn't dangerous but instead felt like Ahmed motivations for bringing the clock to school were not entirely innocent.

Since 9/11 he have had young Muslims bomb marathons, shoot up social events and workplaces, run off and join ISIS and engage in cyber terrorism. So when you have a young Muslim boy from a very religious household show up to school with something that looks like this: Yeah people are going to be alarmed

Nobody thought it was a bomb. Again, you don't bring a device that looks like a fake bomb to school and if you do the police will be called in to find out your motives.

You aren't going to get anywhere arguing with blockheads.

Either way it exposed a lot of incompetence.

It appears the rationale for the pants-wetting overreaction is that Ahmed actually planned for the pants-wetting overreaction, am I reading that correctly? Seems that could have been avoided pretty easily.

As I pointed out earlier (and no one was willing to address) what if his motives had been a trial run? What would have happened if he had admitted to that?

Nothing would have happened because of the incompetence of the police.
