I would be in favor of this too. However, you have a large contingent of the population that will not go for this. When the drug war started, that is when the violence started to get worse. And it wasn't just Chicago that got hit. Milwaukee, 90 minutes north of Chicago, started getting record murder rates. In 1981, the state of Georgia had a murder rate of 17.2 murders per 100,000, the highest murder rate per capita for any state that year. A population around 5.6 million people and 960 murders. Florida that year, with a population around 10 million people, had 1,522 murders that year. Atlanta,GA had around 200 murders in 1980, and I would suspect even more in 1981. Miami was quite violent back then too. Cocaine came up through Miami and went to Atlanta via I-75. The state of Texas was very violent in those days too, especially Houston. I think one year Houston recorded over 700 murders.
Lots of handguns doesn't mean they will use them.... ok maybe they will but we still should have the right to have them, even if others won't have the right to live...
I think that statement pretty well sums up many gunowners' beliefs on the matter. I'm not being sarcastic either.

No it doesn't, "humans have the right to life and the right to protect that life and the right to bear arms is the easiest way to protect that life" would be.
I'd advise anyone to go into one of these high-crime Chicago neighborhoods and ask the people who duck under flying bullets daily if they think having more guns around will solve any of their problems. What do you think the answer will be?

I've been to New Orleans, even more violent than Chicago. I've also been to some safe places. I was in Kennesaw for a few years. This is the city that adopted the "must have a gun" law back in 1982. It didn't have a murder for 25 years. The gun law can't be enforced though.
I say this. Stricter gun laws won't stop the murder rate from going up. Lenient gun laws won't do so either. One must realize that the high murder rate in Chicago is symptomatic of other problems in Chicago.
