You get all that from two guys switching parties from a year ago?
Get all what?
Do you think that in a nation of nearly 40,000,000 people of color these two gentlemen are the only ones to throw off the shackles of democratic party slavery?
Black people are pro life mostly and have very conservative values outside of economic issues. I think as long as the Democratic Party MOSTLY fits their financial and social outlook they'll vote democrat but I could easily see them jumping for an independent party that protects the working man, education and social values but without all the special interest groups that muck everything up.
Black people are not a monolithic group? Who knew..
I agree, but the democratic party media plantation masters (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, LA Times and National Progressive Radio) would have you believe that only a couple of nutcase African-Americans would think for themselves and switch to the party of Independence (GOP).

There are a lot of people who I've heard say black Americans have very conservative social values. How does that gel with the overwhelming lack of marriage and incredibly high out of wedlock birth rate? Is this based solely on their lack of acceptance of homosexuality?

I'm not a black person so this is just my understanding/opinion. I think the black family is still the leader of the black people, even though so many are single and financially hurting. But I still think that most black people respect the family and would vote that way-even though they cannot see it for themselves. I think they still hope it for their children.
I was raised Catholic but rarely go to Church adn rarely sacrifice meat on friday during lent ect. But I hope my children are better Catholics than me. I guess that's what I'm thinking anyway.

The black family was a rock-solid social institution right up until Johnson's Great Society programs began to pull apart those binds.
There used to be a strong network of black owned insurance companies, newspapers and banks.
Prediction: if black people ever switched to the Republican Party in mass droves, a trickle of social conservatives in the GOP would then start drifting over to the Democrats (being appealed by economic populism), and urban, educated, progressive Dems would slowly--over time--move over to the GOP, so the end result would be back to where we started in the late 19th/early 20th century: a progressive, socially liberal, strong pro-federal government Republican Party that is popular in the Northeast and West Coast, and among minorities and urban areas, and the Democrats back to being cultiurally conservative "Dixiecrats" concentrated in the southern states and in rural areas.
Will probably never happen though.
