"As part of the accelerating, high-stakes diplomacy, Reuters has learned, the United States is considering the transfer of an unspecified number of Taliban prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay military prison into Afghan government custody."
All the more reason to catch em, interrogate em on the battlefield and shoot em. With these fools in charge they are just replenishing the enemy for our guys to fight.

I've never felt good about GITMO. Many of those "enemy combatants" are no longer a threat. Perhaps some of them should have been killed, but that ship has sailed. It degrades our democracy to do what we are doing.
No sound bites or partisan bs. will make this situation easier.
Sending some back sounds fine with me. The choice is indefinite detention without trial. Hardly befitting of our country.
KU, do you even read the articles you post? This has nothing to do with "Obama". The exact same policies would be pursued in Afghanistan if we had a Republican president.

They thought these guys were no longer a threat either.............
We shouldn't be in Afghanistan. We toppled the Taliban in 2001, chased them out of Afghanistan by 2002, and killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. Declare victory and bring the troops home.

What are you talking about? As soon as they are released most have claimed they will rejoin the fight and they have even threatend the guards from their cells.
Why not? It's not like we've secured our borders or done anything "real" in order to prevent more of these "big threats" from entering the country. Half of them are detained without just cause anyways; and after being at GITMO, none of them would ever attempt to so much as bat an eyelash at the United States ever again. Unless they've been found guilty of murder or other acts of terrorism - they should be set free. It's an American principal.
