I think it's great that LGBT people are taking their rightful place "at the table" as fellow citizens, taxpayers, voters, and members of society.
A lot of people are not aware that the mayors of two of the most important cities in the world - Paris, France and Berlin, German - are both openly gay people. Not to mention the Prime Minister of the country of Iceland, and the King of Cambodia.
When we see the achievements and contributions that LGBT people have made to society, I cannot understand why a few people still cling to those tired old notions that being gay is a mental disability or a threat to society. Sheesh.
Just wondering, do you know the background and qualifications of each of these public officials? Since the list covers races from all over the county, I'm guessing not. Congratulating a public official based solely on their sexual orientation is ridiculous.

I have to agree with you on that one.
I do not care if someone is gay or straight. Their ability to lead should never be based on their sexual orientation nor should their sexual orientation play a role on whether they win or lose an election.
I really hope whoever voted for them did so because they thought they were the ones who were qualified for the job, not because they are gay.
The gay rights/marriage debate is looking like it will be obsolete within a decade. Younger generations are fine with gay people and don't feel threatened by them.

I'd put it at a bit longer than that. Older folks and the religious right will get more angry and organized as they're increasingly marginalized.
