Um, the Dems didn't want the individual mandate - they wanted a universal, single payer system or at least a robust public option. They were forced to compromise and include the Republican individual mandate.

History lesson for the day: The individual mandate was first proposed in congress in 1993 by these senators:

(No Longer in the Senate)
Jesse Helms (R)
Bob Dole (R)
Strom Thurmond (R)
Trent Lott (R)
Larry Craig (R)
Ted Stevens (R)
Frank Murkowski (R)
Alan Simpson (R)
Bob Bennett (R)
Hank Brown (R)
Lauch Faircloth (R)
Paul Coverdell (R)
Conrad Burns (R)
Judd Gregg (R)
Dirk Kempthorne (R)
Connie Mack (R)
Bob Smith (R)
Malcolm Wallop (R)

(Still In the Senate)
Orrin Hatch (R)
Charles Grassley (R)
Kay Bailey Hutchison (R)
Daniel Coats (R)
Thad Cochran (R)
Richard Lugar (R)

I remember that I was just joking around.
It's a self-inflicted wound. Let's hope it's lethal.

A delusional illegal President is a threat to the U.S.....but do not worry Obama is not omnipotent..when Obama is informed the 3rd Infantry Division based at Ft. Stewart and Ft. Benning is rolling up I-95 he will do what they tell him to..."seek political asylum in Iran".

Actually, it took a very strange turn of events before the bill was passed into law. The House, as you say, passed the Affordable Health Care Act and sent it to the Senate. Senator Reid then replaced the entire bill with his version of the legislation. The Senate passed Sen. Reid's version of the Affordable Health Care Act and sent it back to the House. The House passed Senator Reid's version unamended, thereby enacted the bill into law.

It is Senator Reid who deserves the bulk of the blame, not Speaker Pelosi.

So now its a positive to have your laws rules unconstitutional, and have to have it taken to the Supreme Court.. haha.. oooh my
Republicans do the same thing. Look at the immigration laws. You don't think they knew half of their legislation would be shot down? Of course they did.

Liberlas never afraid to defend incompetence.. Just utterly astounding.
Then why do Republicans do the same thing with immigration? Also, there was precedent with the health care law attempt. Car insurance is mandatory. Why not health insurance also?

Don't want to buy car insurance don't drive a car on public roads. You have a choice. It's not enforced by the federal government it's a state thing.

If someone wants to risk their lives to drive without a seat belt, who has any right to tell them otherwise?
