For the people cheering for it being declared unconstitutional, what are you thinking? You think it is OK for taxpayers to have to pay for people who don't have insurance and can't pay? Or do you think that people who can't pay should be denied healthcare? Our current system is untenable, so what is your plan?
Its funny that there is now all this consternation over the individual mandate. That was included as a concession to conservatives who proposed it in the past. It is based in personal responsibility and the private market, rather than big government. What we really need is single payer.

Right - the mandate was only added to appease conservatives who had no power to block the bill no matter what was in it. That would explain why the libs are fighting tooth and nail to keep it in.

Actually, it was to appease the conservative democrats. But this was always how the republicans proposed reforming healthcare, back to Nixon.

I know what you mean. That's the irony of it. Reversed roles. The republicans wanted something until they figured out a way to use it to make democrats look bad.
Whatever though. I don't want to have to pay for anyone else's health coverage other than mine, my family's, and possibly my employees. Make the under-insured work off their medical debts, rather than using taxpayer money to cover them.

That's funny, I can't seem to recall any "conservative" democrat threatening to filibuster if it didn't contain a mandate.
What I do seem to recall was the insurance industry lobbying for a mandate to bring them hordes of healthy customers who rarely file a claim against them...
Did someone lose sight of the fact that only this aspect of the law was declared unconstitutional, where the whole of the rest of it was upheld?
