Yes, by all means, let's do that for every backwoods crank on mental home brew who thinks they can take away the freedoms of many at the ballot box...........Great idea.

I have a friend who's a gay attorney in Minneapolis (and very active politically with the local HRC and similar organizations). His theory is that the DFLers in the senate didn't want to go out on a limb for a bill the would inevitably be vetoed by a Republican governor with national ambitions. Once Pawlenty goes, politicians would be more willing to take a stand because it would be effective rather than symbolic. It's also a point of regional honor. That Iowa should be more progressive than Minnesota is embarrassing.

When it comes to voting on right to equality like this, yes, we should throw voting out the window.

"legislating from the bench" = "any court decision someone doesn't like"

There is a lot of green corn in Iowa. Gives a person time to think things over.

I agree

get rid of the marriage benefits altogether and see if the gays still want it.....bet many want it for the benefits

When it comes to privileges and immunities, the 14th amendment tells us voting doesn't count.

I'd like to think that's the case.

I am very pleased that all three DFL candidates for Governor openly state that they will sign a same-sex marriage bill if it gets to their desk.
