we arent even in the top 160 for ALL crimes. this will subside, eventually. pittsburgh has had its spikes over the last 4 decades, as i remember. when my family moved out of pittsburgh for a couple years, i remember car break-ins and personal assaults were not rare at all in Hill/Uptown areas. those places were just grim.

they look better, ARE better, and there is hope there.

not to make light of what we are seeing here, but really, all this is STILL confined overwhelmingly to crimes against people who know the assailant, they most occur in late hours and so one might assume involve alcohol or drug influence, etc.

it isnt like there is a random rapist going around, or if people are being mugged downtown.

yes, i know there have been devastating cross-fire fatalities recently, though.
Problem is it’s going to get worse, unless one actually believes big Ed is going to clean up the riff-raff.

Pittsburgh has mostly been a safe city, relatively speaking. I do think year-over-year comparisons of violent crimes in Pittsburgh is also a fair comparison. In that context, I've read that crime has been on the rise since the pandemic, which is a nice way of saying that crime has increased since BLM and Antifa have rioted, looted and murdered in the summer of 2020. The same riots that MSNBC and CNN called "mostly peaceful" as fires were burning in the background of the reporters trying to push the fake news.

This looks like something out of the movie "Idiocracy" but nope, it's good old fake news CNN. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

Compared to Philly and Baltimore, or even Cleveland, Cincinnati and Colombus, Ohio, Pittsburgh is a low crime paradise.

Here's an interesting chart, cities with the highest increase in homicide rates since covid started. Pittsburgh isn't on the list. Cincinnati is #2, Baltimore is #4 and Philadelphia is #20. Columbus made the list at #37.

15-year-old accused of assaulting two women during robbery of Pittsburgh home

“One of the adult victims told police that Curry lifted her up, brought her to the ground and then assaulted her. Court documents say that the other adult who lived in the home came to help, but said that Curry choked her and hit her in the forehead with his gun. He then allegedly pointed the gun directly at her head.“

Good thing he waited until he was of age to buy his gun.

Unfortunately, the homeowner wasn’t armed. Could’ve saved taxpayers money.
