So we stay closed if Philly remains closed? No matter if our local numbers reflect nowhere near philly or northeast city?

What’s good for Philly isn’t good for Pittsburgh. Especially in this case.

Coronavirus cases: 950ish and most likely half are already over it. Also, from other studies there probably has been around 5 times those cases rolling through undetected, because this thing isn't all that big of a deal for anyone healthy. If you aren't healthy or are older, just stay home. Healthy, people should get back at it. The question is, what are we doing? Why not get back to work, wear a mask and keep everything clean especially your hands. Don't tough your face. Is all this really that hard? Goodness. I don't think bars and restaurants need to be going full blast because you can't wear a mask while eating or drinking, but that is about it. Get the economy going again other than that industry and people will get takeout.
From a public health perspective, yes, it is that hard. Enforcement of hand washing, mask wearing, etc. would be damn near impossible. In general, we have laws that protect us from the bad behavior of others by discouraging that bad behavior through penalty. This situation is similar in the sense that the bad behavior of others (going out without a mask, going out while sick) will put others in danger. The challenge here is there's no way to post-facto hold someone responsible for getting others sick.

Really what he says is the only thing that matters at this point.

Just because it is probably not clear from my post above - I do support re-opening the economy in our region, as long as it is done thoughtfully. In an ideal world, that would include significant restrictions on travel in and out of the region as well as restrictions on large gatherings.

what if there is a significant outbreak in another country - will we ban travel to and from that place?

there are so many details that are out of the control of local leaders that you haven't considered.
You mean that you haven't considered.

All borders are closed. And of course every single thing you mentioned has been considered as well as the 500 other things you didn't think of.

It takes a very special worldview to think that the armies of PhDs who designed this plan weren't already 100 moves ahead of you.

If the PhDs are so much smarter than me, why didn't they purchase PPE for their facilities back in January when I purchased mine? Liberal arts degree for the win!

100 moves ahead? How so?

Even Fauci was way behind when asked about the virus.

Dr. Tedros of the WHO has a PhD, and so far he has told me that the virus cannot be transmitted between humans, that travel bans are bad, that using nomenclature that includes the virus' country of origin is bad (in fact, worse than the virus itself), and that masks are useless.

Is this what you call ahead of the curve?

Oh yes, he also said that China's numbers were reliable and that they were being totally transparent. Yet, yesterday, China revised all their numbers for Wuhan.

Bingo.

These “PhD’s” are obviously not as smart as they’re getting credit for, and no way I’m buying they’re 100 moves ahead of anything until they prove otherwise.
