Wow......... you two will be cream crackered this morning........ I slept all right with the big fan going in the bedroom. Plus a few barcardi and cokes helped........

It's supposed to be cooler today, but I've got up to blue skies again. I've opened a window in each room, to cool things a bit. I'm not looking forward to hoovering the house, once the magnificent two get up for their showers.

Interesting talk about university education. When I was young, going to uni was very unusual. In fact, I only knew two people in my family and friends circle who did. Those two were my Auntie Elsie's sons. But, they were always thought to come from the 'posh' side of the family!

I came from a very working class family of that time, which is the 60s. You left school as soon as you could, and went to work. In fact, the first week of my working life, I was still 14 years old.......in them days, kids left school at 15, unless they were total swots, and a few remained to do CSEs, or O Levels for one year. In my school there was only one person who remained at school after 16. She was called Dorothy, and she remained to do her 'A' levels when she was 18. I was 15 in August 1968, and school finished in July, so I was still 14 years old when I got my first wage packet. I don't think officially, I was supposed to be working....

Those were very different times, hard to explain just how different than today. It's better now in many ways, youngsters are encouraged to go to university, and get a real education. What I do notice today, is how immature young people are, and seem to grow up more slowly than we did. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just an observation. My wife's grandson is 17, and he is very much a kid. He likes his phone, and his games he plays on whatever those boxes are called now. His mum treats him very much like a youngster. When I was his age, I was in the army, and very much not treated like a youngster....... It's a different world I guess.

I wouldn't know what to specialise in, if I went back to Uni, as a 'mature student' (no comments, please! ). I did Combined Science, where I did 4 subjects in the first year, and 2 subjects in the second and third years.

Morning all!

No, I haven't got a Masters Degree, only a humble BSc (Hons)!

To be honest I don't have the time, the inclination, or more importantly the money to do a Masters. I much prefer more relevant industry-standard certifications; they generally mean a whole lot more really.

Gosh! Are you two old'uns still up and about at 4 in the morning!?

I had a really peaceful sleep last night, as per my own recommendations, lol

but I won't rub it in, otherwise Star will just start swearing again.

Actually I was awake at 4, but that's only because that's when my alarm clock goes off (during the summer months). I usually go for a morning jog between 4 and and half 5. You should have sent me a message and we could have all gone out for a early morning 12 mile jog together! Now wouldn't that be nice? hahahahaha!

(I had better shut up otherwise Star will get angry and this thread will be full of asterisks )

It's bit milder today - at least in Central England. Only 25C thus far in my office.

Anyway, have a great day, peeps!

I was trying to think of a funny response to this thread but I'm out of luck.

It sure does SAT...... I was thinking earlier about our trip to the coast yesterday, to Blackpool. It used to be a real popular holiday area in the days before the British discovered Spain. Many times, when we have driven over, for a walk along the beach, the place is very quiet.

Well, with all the heat yesterday, lots of people came, and Blackpool was very busy. Judy and I went into a place called Wetherspoon's, of which many towns have a branch. It's sort of like the McDonald's of booze, and food.

We sat down, after getting a couple of drinks, and I observed the clientele. They were on the mature side, like myself. They laughed, and were enjoying the food and drink. It suddenly dawned on me, I was watching the last gasp of the old fashioned 'working class.' The types who left school at 15, and went to work. Youngsters today, many of which go on to have a university education, don't consider themselves working class, even if their parents are. The lines have become blurred in recent years.

I realized I was in a gathering of my tribe, and I quite enjoyed it....... doesn't happen a lot these days. This is how the British tribes placed themselves when I was a boy, in the 60s.......

I'm more broke than a cracked vase, and the only paper in my wallet is some receipts.
