Berger confirms that EB is in the Senate budget and also confirms that it is retroactive.

Forward progress is being made. I cannot help but think the real numbers are escalating towards 50,000 mow. Fortunately, the latter numbers had more notice than we did, but still, as these numbers DO grow, they represent a loss of revenue and a loss of maybe $15,000,000.00 each week from NC citizens. In the end, EB will be reinstated, hopefully sooner than later. it should never have been used as a bargaining chip in the first place, and I belive the Republican leadership has felt the backlash in a real way. Now however that both sides have to agree on a budget, there is still a TON of face saving to do. I believe that within 10 days, there will be a resolution and checks shotky afterward, but nothing can prohibit this from taking place sooner.

Hold fast. Keep digging and dialing. It has taken a toll on us all, just breathe............

Default Retroactive for whom?

Did he mention that it was only retroactive for those already on EB or did he mention that it would be retroactive to the other 10,000 or so that weren't on EB when they stopped it?

My weekly call to Sen. Thom Goolsby's office... on hold for more than 6 minutes. Explains they passed a bill for EB that was vetoed, yada yada. He told me the issue was dead and EB was not on the agenda. THEN, I asked him about Berger's press conference and attaching EB to the budget and he had not heard about it... put me on hold again to ask the Senator. Then, he came back to the line and said yes, EB is attached to the state budget and should be on her desk by June 1st. I asked what would happen if vetoed by Perdue and he said, "you will be back to square one." "you"... I said, "don't you mean us?" and I kindly hung up.

Gov Perdue was right in her statement last Thursday about the GOP playing games. EB is not a priority and I don't mean to be negative on this forum but if the Senator representing my district (his staff) can act so illiterate then I am extremely disappointed.

UGH!

Default Senate budget -- yet another attack on the unemployed

The Herald-Sun - N C Senate budget would cut tax rates (http://www.heraldsun.com/view/full_story/13380568/article-N-C--Senate-budget-would-cut-tax-rates?instance=homethirdleft - broken link)

I couldn't believe this. The Senate budget repeals the tax deduction for severance wages. They really do not like the unemployed, do they?

The callous disregard Berger has for the citizens of this state blows my mind. I've talked to his office, Tillis', and many others, they absolutely do not care about the damage they've done. Two weeks is a lifetime for most of the people affected by the machinations of these cowardly bastards.
