I could see them booing AIC after Jar of Flies or Dirt was released, but Facelift?????
After Facelift was released they went on tour with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax on the, I think it was called the "clash of titans" tour. Anyways...they were booed off stage and had stuff thrown at them every night. There was even one instance I read about; someone threw a jug of cool-aid at them on stage. lol

I remember the Clash of the Titans tour. Oh how I kick myself for not going.

Anyways, thats bizarre. AIC was a rather large success, getting heavy play rotation for their video "Man In The Box" on Headbanger's Ball. Im surprised they got booed.

I bet those idiot fans who booed them still have their heads in the sand. Id be embarrassed.

I was lucky enough to catch Alice In Chains live at Lollapalooza and man they were great. Even better the whole show rocked. Tons of great bands that year of 1993......Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Primus all played and were exceptional. Tool's set was cut short as Maynard jokingly invited the lawn people to jump the barriers and come down front. I have some very fond memories of that concert/day. AIC sounded so good and were exceptional live.

Although I don't consider them alternative, I voted for Alice In Chains because Layne Staley's voice is one of the few that can give me chills.

To this day there are guys trying to imitate Layne. Good luck with that!

This is pretty much where I stand on this. "Alternative" used to mean what we now think of as "college rock" or "indie rock" but now has no meaning whatsoever (nor does "indie" anymore). First it meant bands like REM and then it basically covered any group that wasn't a hair band as I guess that's what it was "alternative" to. Then "alternative" wasn't really an alternative to anything. Oh well.

I have always considered alternative rock as rock music that implements other genres into their music such as punk, hip-hop, electronic, etc. Basically any rock band that goes outside of the typical drummer, guitarist, bass guitarist, lead singer format.

With that said, I voted for Nine Inch Nails. They are my favorite all-time band (if you can even call them a band since Trent is NIN).
