Photographer Sebastiao Salgado embarks on the discovery of pristine territories and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project which is a tribute to the planet's beauty.
The Botany of Desire, Amazon Prime. Documentary narrated by Frances McDormand and author Michael Pollan (based on the book of the same name). Four major topics: the apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato. He (Pollan) does balance his reporting with the good and the bad (genetically modified potatoes). This is 2009, so he does not cover bad seed oils / vegetable oils used to fry McDonald french fries and how they affect your brain's circulation. Or how bad for you fruit juices are. I watched it all the way through.
Nice, classical horror with a heck of an escape clause. Tight clothing and, in the words of Alec Freeman, beautifully designed women. About the only downer was maybe not the best flick for me to see as I am fixing to go under the knife this year.....but, oh well!
"Swindlers" from 2017, Korean...not sure of the title in Korean. It's good but predictable if you like me have watched 50+ korean movies before this one will be very predictable and more boring but it's a good way to kill time.
Back in the early 90s I saw "Demolition Man" at a large shopping mall in Phoenix which recently closed.
Just for kicks, I bought it online and watched it again. It was fun and almost "accurate" about a couple of scenes predicting the future. It was made in 1993 but set in 1996. Stallone's character is cryogenically frozen and reawakened in 2032. Stallone doesn't age in his frozen state, but the others do.
In one scene Stallone's character notes the "lack of toilet paper" in the future, and the others laugh at him because he doesn't know how to use the modernized toilet at that time.
Next, there is a virtual, computerized "sex" scene between Stallone's character and the lead female (Bullock) since actual physical sex is considered too "infectious" in the future. So, it's not a real sex scene - just CGI imagery simulated in the brain.
Both scenes remind me of the coronavirus and current pandemic. There are rumors of a sequel which I hope is coming soon. I guess it'll have to be shown at a drive-in or online. There was a time though when one could watch movies like that at a crowded mall without having to wear a mask or get temperature checks.
