I had started it on Sunday, but fell asleep on it, and was able to finish it today. I don't think I've ever seen it completely....but read it in the Sunday comics back when they put Disney flicks there.
Beautiful photography of land very sparsely populated.
It's my rating - #1 for the year to date. I have my theory as to why the media is panning this.
.
Thank you for replying. I have my theory too, just based on who wrote the scathing reviews and their first paragraphs. After that it seemed it they were going to talk about the plot and I prefer to go to a movie without the baggage of someone else's opinion so I stopped reading.
"Stronger"--Gyllenhaal, Maslany, and Miranda Richardson (such a wonderful performance of a woman with more issues than even her damaged son)...
In some ways it is an excellent film that goes beyond the generic "hero" movies---asking us to question the price the public required its chosen "heros" to pay to satisfy OUR expectations...nothing really new in that but is is effective...
And the special effects are seamless
Gyllenhaal's performace ins top notch--very physical and manic and real...
But it was difficult for me to dismiss the lack of medical/professional insight about what was glaringly NOT there--
NO inkling of counseling, PTSD assessment, psychological insight from any of the medical/rehab people who helped "heal" Jeff Bauman after the blast...
If it was offered and ignored/refused---that should have been noted...
It is a slap in the face of medical professionals to offer the position that none of those involved with Baurman's treatment cared about his mental state...even the evidence of stress in the avoiding of rehab appointments is laid at the feet of his pre-existing desire to shirk responsibility...
Maybe that is in the book and omitted for one reason or another from the film--very bad decision IMO
And a shout out to Costco--who came through by keeping Bauman employed and current with his insurance---
Something that was used for point/counterpoint about various people's reactions to his injury and then ignored.
Bauman went back to work for Costco a year after the blast...although I doubt he is still a part of Costco organization now.
Also discovered (since this is not a local story for me like it is for many in Boston/east coast) that Bauman and Erin separated/divorced earlier this year...
I saw this one in the theaters the year it came out. I remember loving it back then. Not sure what the hell I was thinking...this one is right up there with Jason X as far as worst in the franchise.
Unlocked. I enjoyed it, though I could easily easily see the "twists" coming. Noomi Rapace did an excellent job of acting.
