If you're going to cut your teeth into Taiwanese cinema, might as well start with the heavy hitters: Edward Yang and Hou Hsiao-hsien. Taipei Story, directed by Yang, stars Hou Hsiao-hsien as the main character. Essential Yang: (in addition to Taipei Story) Yi Yi, A Brighter Summer Day, and Terrorizers.
In bustling downtown Madrid, a loud gunshot and two mysterious deaths trap a motley assortment of common urbanites in a decrepit central bar, while paranoia and suspicion force the terrified regulars to turn on each other.
Last night was an experience, one Id rather forget.. watched The Island of Dr Moreau. with a very bloated overrated Marlon Brando most of the time wearing white makeup and a strange shaped hat on his head... then he changed to a flowery mumu dress and had a wastepaper bin on his head for some odd reason, that someone I think put ice in to cool him down.. by this time my head was hurting too and I wished I had an ice bucket for over mine..... a silly film that Brando would have been better turning down... I never got to the end as was so confused and fed up...

Great performances all around, but Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen) really shines here. John Cho is excellent as well.
