It's about a British woman named Gertrude Bell (played by Nicole Kidman) who traveled extensively in the Middle East in the late 19th and early 20th century. By all accounts, Bell was an extraordinarily impressive and accomplished woman. She was one of the first women to graduate from Oxford, was an archaeologist and and a writer, spoke something like seven languages, was a mountain climber, was a spy for British intelligence during WWI, and helped define the borders of Iraq. Some accounts refer to her as the female Lawrence of Arabia, and in fact she and Lawrence were compatriots operating in the Middle East at the same time. (In this movie, Lawrence is played by Twilight's Robert Pattinson. What on earth were the casting directors thinking?!?!)
But despite all the grist of her contributions and accomplishments, this movie chose to focus primarily on Bell's failed romantic relationships. Unfortunately, those relationships weren't very interesting and Kidman had ZERO chemistry with the male actors (James Franco and Damien Lewis), and neither of the characters portrayed by these actors came across as particularly appealing men. (The movie also implied that both men committed suicide.)
The movie was beautiful to watch: gorgeous costuming, filming locations, and set decorations, but also all very "British Colonial" in style. (Which is appropriate to the time period, but somewhat uncomfortable from the distance of a hundred years.) But when it was over, the three ladies sitting next to me all proclaimed in unison that it was probably the most boring movie they'd ever seen. I tend to agree!
"10 Cloverfield Lane." with John Goodman. That sure took a surprising twist I didn't anticipate.
Unfortunately, at that point it lost all credibility for me.
I was looking forward to seeing the new, slimmer Mr. Goodman and was sorry to see he that he appears to be losing the battle with his weight. He didn't look well and his delivery was so similar to that in other movies he's been in that I felt like he was "mailing it in."
C'mon John. I usually enjoy your films and would like to see you stick around for a while yet.
We watched Passangers today with the kids (13) & (10) and we all enjoyed it. I guess some people didn't like it, but my family did. We had a little discussion about whether the main character should have done what he did and why or why not. Keep me interested the whole time, not one that I'd buy or anything.
I'm watching Schindler's List right now. I've seen it before so I don't know why I keep doing this to myself, but I saw that it was back on Netflix and I just had to start watching it again.
I.T (2016) starring Peirce Brosnan. Mike Regan has everything he could ever want, a beautiful family and a top of the line smart house. The company he owns is on the verge of changing flight leasing forever. That is, until the relationship with his I.T. advisor turns nasty, to the point where his teenage daughter is being stalked and his family is under attack through every technological facet of their lives.
This was an okay movie (horrible ending). It reminded me of a cross between the movie Fear and the movie Sliver.
247°F (2016) Four friends travel to a lakeside cabin for a carefree weekend, the fun turns into a nightmare when 3 of them end up locked in a hot sauna. Every minute counts and every degree matters as they fight for their lives in the heat up to 247°F.
A very stupid movie. Don't waste your time.
