I enjoyed flying sequences and star travel the most.
My chief complaints are: right off the bat , James used ZERO discernment addressing the female distress call/visitor. immediately, a commander would have to rule out a trap or trojan horse.
Worst of all, the lack of reaction and delay when attacked. come on, his father would have been warp speed outta there immediately via visual assessment at a "swarm" attack .
At the end James dad would have not risked 100's of millions of lives by giving ONE guy (Krall) an opportunity to, MAYBE, redeem himself. Please !! James is not commander material. no discernment , no weighing the lives of many vs. the life of one. and no remorse or conscious that his poor decision making almost killed his crew AND 100's of millions. James just happily goes into his birthday party??
Um, Sulu and the 'gay' thing is, imho, unnecessary and distracting.
Loved the star flight sequence during the credits. Coulda done without Rhianna's whining voice, though.
Yes, I highly recommend this. Actually, I use a five-star rating. I've seen a lot of his films and would give five stars for "Nobody Knows", "Like Father, Like Son" and "Afterlife". His problem is he's set the bar so high with some of his previous films!
It was the wife's choice. She loved it. Great movie for what it was.
