Congratulations, to Renee Zellweger. I still think Cynthia Erivo should have won, but if it couldn't be her, I'm glad it fell to one of my next two choices (Renee and Charlize) who I thought were neck and neck until I saw Cynthia Erivo's performance.
Glad to see the Academy reward something so unexpected! Almost all of the other awards were totally predictable. But Best Picture was a shocker! I picked 14 out of 24 of the awards. Not too terrible. And frankly I didn't pick Parasite. I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. But it definitely was a strong movie and I'm thrilled that they won!
I was very disappointed in Zellwiger’s acceptance speech—
She could have used the lesson of Garland’s life and death to skewer the Hollywood system for its abuse of female actors, power of white males, and entrenched hierarchy because Garland suffered from all three...
Instead she tried to mimic Phoenix’s speech—-more heartfelt and authentic if incoherent at times...
Are we not supposed to drink milk???
I've only seen two - Parasite and Marriage Story. I really liked them both but loved Parasite. My son was home for christmas and had to drag me to see parasite because I am NOT in love with subtitles - but it kept my attention from the very beginning.
I actually think subtitles enhance my movie experience, particularly in the horror genre. Because I have to give the movie my complete attention, due to reading the subtitles, I think I become much more immersed in the movie.
I knew Parasite would win. Some were saying 1917 but that's probably just their nostalgia talking. Phoenix=Best Actor. Oscars got it right.
Both films did very well, although Parasite was the more original story, so deserved the Best Film, and after all the cricism of the Director catergory for not being dverse enough, it went to Korean Director Bong Joon-ho.
'The Irishman' was surprisinglly the film that failed to win a single award despite having ten nominations.
I can't imagine how Hollywood could do a better job of becoming completely irrelevant.
And yet here you are, making it relevant.
