I haven't seen it but it seemed like such a retread. I suspect that Netflix (like Mirimax) does some purchasing of nominations to try to get Netflix movies to have prestige. I feel the same with Amazon. If you watch a highly lauded film and you think it sucks, check the credits, someone powerful produced it.

I think Greta Gerwig's LITTLE WOMEN was one of the best movies I have seen in the theater in a long time. Whether or not it wins the latest popularity contest and statue changes none of that.

The Oscars are disgusting, and like Nuclear War, the only way to win is not to play.

Yeah, we get it. You do you. But if you're not going to play, why engage in this thread? Seems to me that you're playing.

Personally I think the Oscars are tanking ratings wise because they have been failing to nominate quality and with the Mirimax scandle people are losing interest.

I don't think Joker is going to win but I would love to see it. I think it would truly be groundbreaking. Not only that it is a "comic" book film, but also with its heavy themes about the 1% and the cruelty of the elites who like to pretend they are helping the poor I think it would send a larger message. I think Joaquin will win for best actor.
This sums it up quite well for me. I saw Joker and it was excellent. At first I wasn’t going to see it as it was so dark for a comic figure, but then the reality is it wasn’t supposed to be comic. I hope Joaquin gets the award. Those other films don’t interest me at all. I think the Irishman is too same old stuff with the same plot that these actors are always performing. Also needs more Irish actors.

So far, the only movie I've seen that is up for awards is The Two Popes, which I watched this morning, actually. It was very good, and both leads, Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, received Oscar nominations.

I don't like violent or dark movies, nor do I particularly enjoy Marvel movies, so neither The Joker nor The Irishman will be on my watch list at all. That said, from everything I've read, Joker seems very deserving of its many nominations, particularly Joaquin Phoenix, who seems to be the front runner for Lead Actor. The Irishman, judging by some of the comments on here, maybe not so much?

I'm a bit behind in my movie watching this year, so I've only seen one of them so far (Little Women). It was good, but not Oscar worthy. Frankly I think Greta was more worthy of a directing nod than the firm for Best Picture.

I'm most looking forward to seeing 1917 and Parasite. I've heard they're both marvelous. Parasite in particular, which I've heard people say is the film that should win, but probably won't.

PSA for anyone who lives near a Regal Theater, you may want to look into the Best Picture Festival Pass ... you can see 7 of the 9 movies (not the two on Netflix) for $35. (You can also get a small soft drink/popcorn combo for $5 each visit) It's an excellent deal.
Joker was my worst movie of the year. It actually was worse than Aquaman - my worst film of last year. Parasite was probably my favorite. I really liked JoJo Rabbit and Ford vs Ferrari too. I haven't seem 1917 and The Irishman though. Scorsese is still the best director around.

I think Uncut Gems should have been up there. Sandler for best actor? I know it seems odd - but don't judge him by all the horrible films he has made. He was really good in Punch-Drunk Love back in 2002.

It's really interesting how polarizing The Joker is: people either rave that it's one of the greatest movies they've ever seen, or complain that it was two hours of hot garbage.

The only one of the Best Picture nominees I've seen this year is Jojo Rabbit. I really liked it, but I don't know that it's a Best Picture, (and comedies don't usually win.)

In the Animated Feature category, I watched I Lost My Bod on Netflix. It's very strange (but interesting and beautiful.) I'm guessing Toy Story 4 will win.

Why weren’t DARK WATERS and/or Mark Ruffalo nominated?!!!

I'm kind of hoping Renee doesn't win for Judy. Admittedly, I haven't seen it, but from the clips I've seen, her portrayal didn't seem terribly strong. Just typical squinty Renee. Maybe I'm missing something. I've seen three of the others in the Best Actress category, and Cynthia Erivo has my vote.
I think that you’re wrong. Renee did a great job! She must have watched countless Judy performances and interviews to get that down pat. I hope that she gets it.
