What are water rights? I read that sometimes to buy property in Montana, usually rural areas, there is a Water Rights issue. Does this mean you can not drill for a well, because the source owner has control?

thx

Not to be confused with farmer cheese, a dry cottage cheese.

The highway department has went to a double dose method of snow removal that has made them a "Green" business. They use snow plows, followed immediately by solar power.

Actually, that highway is closed from early November until mid April or even May, depending on how hard it is to remove the snow. There are two ways over the mountains. Because of grade and curves, that pictured, is the one closed to vehicular traffic. It has a lot of snowmobiles running it, but no cars or trucks.

Where most highways kind of loose their prestine looks on snow removal, that one is only done once which makes it look nice in pictures. I might also note that that highway runs over 9,000 ft in elevation.

On that road, it is 104 miles from one town to the next. There are some lodges about half way, but fuel at those lodges are $1.50 to $2.00 a gallon higher in price then either end. Those lodges can be accessed on the East side of the Mountains. The lodges are actually the center point of a Y. with two legs accessing and one closed seasonally.

Water rights are contentious, so if you desire land outside of a municipal town with the legal firepower to defend their source- you'd better do your homework.

That's my opine.
