Aspen Drug...kind of across the street from Riverboat Playhouse.

They had shirts that said 'How's Your Aspen?' Always made me laugh.

And I think Navarro is gone now too.

Anthony's pizza across the street from there. In high school we went to lunch there at least 3 times a week.

I'm still in shock that College Park closed. We actually tried to order from there this weekend. Kept getting 'this line is no longer in service.' I must have called 5 more times just to make sure. WAY better food than Ciros by The Falls.

Read through the whole thread. Keg South is still open at 12805 SW 136th Ave. A lot of memories from the past that are long gone: the Cameo (heck, all of South Beach and it's grungy 1980's past), Rocky Horror in the Grove, The Studio(chocolate mousse), Castle Park, movie theaters everwhere (Concord, Miller Square, Tropicaire Drive-In, Sunset Theater). One things that I didn't see others metion Parrot Jungle (what a loss). Does anyone remember a place called Potters Field? It's still there off of 87th Ave a little past Miller. It is now fenced in, but it was a place we used to go in high school: spooky and exciting (oh, disrespectful youth). There was also a make-out/party place down in Key Biscayne in a residential neighborhood; it was an open lot with a concrete tank dug out (it was said that they used to keep Flipper there?). Does anyone remeber the name of the sub shop on Bird and 92? close to Olympia Heights. I can't remeber it, my sister worked there and it turned me off to subs for a long time. It wasn't the place but how she smelled after work. Italian dressing and lunch meat!!

And behind "potter's field" was a lake that is the deepest in the area. You could walk around it to hidden valley golf course. You are right, it was spooky at night with the dead pine trees against the night sky. While fenced in now you can still get in from the side gate. Too bad they recently replaced the old stockade building, that was a unique and creepy historical place. The sub shop on Bird I do not remember though.

Yup, Anthony's! I was taken aback by the loss of College Park too. I moved back to Kendall last year and a few months back I suggested to my wife that we go there. I was so excited but when we got there, instant bummage, it is now Sandbar as in the same bar in the grove. I guess cheap pitcher and good pizza is out of style. Hungry Bear is still there though.

Speaking of Sandbar, remember the Hungry Sailor in the Grove and their reggae shows?

Hidden Lake and high-school garage band, punk rock shows held around there.

Remember in Hobie beach in the late 80's Friday nights it would get packed with high school kids for drinking and all sorts of debauchery? I actually saw a MDPD park his car into the crowd, open his trunk and take out a case of miller lite to hand out. I don’t know what that was about but it was pretty funny, right out of "Back to School".

I used to also go to parties in Key Biscayne in the abandoned The Key Biscayne Hotel and Villas , next to the old Sheraton and the other hotels that were shut down there. When I was a kid going to beaches Key Biscayne was a pain because of the old drawbridge. The traffic would be horrendous.

Remember when the Norway was docked at Port of Miami?

I also remember when Burger King was at the entrance and the smell was so awesome. My Dad worked at a little grocery store part time called The Golden Rule somewhere in Perrine. And of course I remember the strip mall that used to be where the Cutler Ridge Mall was where they had a grocery store, Hallmark card store and department store and theater only. Interesting to hear all the perspectives and memories that I thought I had forgotten about. Does anyone remember the ice cream parlor that had a pizza place in the back somewhere along US1? Also, the restaurant Pumpernickles?

YEsss! Dadeland and Westland both had huge stautes and fountains. Westland still looks about the same (without big statues) but Dadeland is totally different. The restaurant in Burdines was awesome! That Burger King was the 1st two-story BK I've ever seen with a dumb-waiter and all.

As kid growing up in Coconut Grove I remember going to "love-ins" at Peacock Park, riding my bike along the bike path from our home on Poincianna down in to the Grove to eat at Cozzollis Pizza, or going to Lums to get the best hot dog ever.

When I was in highschool I used to go to a roller rink in South Miami or Coral Gables. I can't remember the name. It was just North of US1. Maybe Southland Skate?

I used to go surfing off the South Beach pier, back before South Beach was The Trend spot. It was just surfers, fishermen, usually some guy playing saxophone, and junkies. There was a place called "Coldest Beer On Earth" that totally lived up to its name.
I used to surf there too... Peir Park. really shady back in the day. That place would sell frozen snickers and sunkist. perfect for taking the salt out of you rmouth. There was also a surfer kid that had a Saint Bernard there named Trooper. Trooper would chase you if you had a boogie board and not a surf board so he could sink his teeth into the foam. He got one of mine when I was about 12 yrs old and I was pissed but the surfers were like a gang and there was no messing with them or Trooper. they were kinder when i brought a real surf board.

Wonderfully, the old Parrot Jungle is now Pinecrest Gardens and they've kept everything, except for parrots. Its free to get in except for a splash park they added ($2 or $3) for the kids. There is a petting zoo next to a playground ($1 a cup of feed) and a snack bar. Its still a very beautiful place to see and its perfect for weddings, birthday parties or just picnics in the grass. I still have not been to the new Jungle Island.

That's true. I just miss the parrots. Haven't been to the splash park. Sounds like a good place to hang out with the kids.
