yes death is permanent that is why I won't take the shot. I have a history of heart conditions in my family.

Me too. Both sides of the family.

Which is why the doctor recommended I get the shot as soon as possible (one reason why). Luckily I was offered it very early on.

The Merck/Ridgeback oral COVID antiviral in today's news looks encouraging. In a 700-something trial, 8 who took the placebo died. Zero died taking the antiviral pills. The WSJ speculated that it will hit the market at the end of the year. I'm sure the horse de-wormer and aquarium cleaner people will find some reason to reject it. I imagine several oral antivirals will hit the market in the next 6 months. You test positive. You sprint to the pharmacy for your Rx. The odds improve dramatically. This one looks like it reduces the risk of hospitalization by 50%. It's not quite the magic cure potion but it's certainly an improvement over the IV antiviral, monoclonal antibody, and steroids we administer to the really sick people now.

Yes, the Merck product has been in the news. I suppose it's going to help the anti-vax crowd to justify their position--"And if I do get the virus, there are drugs now that will help me survive."

You shouldn't worry about that. They are not going to change their mind.

The people who are anti-vax are normally also anti-mask and anti-social distancing - basically anything that might prevent infection or reduce disease transmission, they rigidly oppose. Interestingly enough, the same people are very pro-treatment , and that means any odd treatment, and I do mean odd. Why they don't assert that the treatments are conspiracies but the preventative methods are, I don't understand. I mean, I don't understand the conspiracy assertions on prevention either, but if you're going to be paranoid, why aren't you always paranoid? Doctors and scientists have worked out both the prevention methods as well as the treatments, and healthcare companies make money selling products on both sides. Further, the Gates Foundation contributes to both vaccines and drugs, so why not say Bill Gates is trying to cut the earth's population by killing everyone with the treatments, as well as the vaccines?

I don't see this as an issue if the goal is to save lives. Those who don't want the vaccine won't get it, but if there is a drug to help them survive, then that is a win. If the purpose of vaccination is to reduce hospitalization rates and this serves the same purpose, that's good news.

Oh, I do agree. Everyone should get the vaccine (except if there's some medical reason not to) but I don't grudge a life-saving drug to anyone who could have been vaccinated but wasn't. They're not exactly going to be dancing around with joy at the time they get it!

It might not be 100 percent the shot causing myocarditis but the way the shot is administered. How can the people giving these shots screw up. Some might agree with this doctor. The shot is supposed to be intramuscular. But some are screwing up and doing it intravenously. Which is causing mycardioitis.

The doctor says if done the proper way intramuscular there should be no heart problems ..

I'm open minded but how can so many screw up the shot? Does not give me confidence getting the shot nonetheless.

The last COVID surge? Experts optimistic, but warn against easing precautions

"Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former head of the FDA, said earlier this week the delta variant is likely to spread aggressively through the northern U.S. in the weeks ahead before trailing off around Thanksgiving. However, he believes this may be the final big wave of infections the nation faces.

“I do think this is the last major surge of infection, barring something unexpected like a new variant coming along that pierces the immunity offered by vaccination or prior infection,” Gottlieb told CNN Monday."
