Anyway it’s all for optics. If they cared about anything they wouldn’t wait for holidays or certain times. If it was that essential to do this it would be immediate. This is all just a big show, and with any government action we are the ones paying for it.
+1.

It's kind of why Baker also required universal masking...indoors and outdoors...it's all about getting people into a habit.

But there isn't any real evidence that masks control the virus spread in any significant way. Under limited circumstances it's likely they mitigate. Key word being likely.

I feel bad for gym owners but I don’t know why anyone would be going to the gym right now. We actually bought and elliptical and a pelaton. I get people want to be healthy but seems so easy to spread at a gym.

Lots of people have been using the gym since they reopened, including me. No evidence to stay away from them given the occupancy guidelines.

Gyms make me far more nervous than restaurants. I also have no desire to work out with a mask on, it would drive me insane.

Each piece of equipment is properly spaced. The equipment is sanitized twice, once by the user and a second time by staff, each time. There are occupancy limits. Like many others I suspect, I go the gym to supplement the workouts I do at home and outdoors, using that equipment that I cannot keep at home. In and out. Those who don't feel good about should not use it. But there's no evidence it's any riskier than anything else.

My dad is in his 70s and he goes to the gym. He thinks it’s better now because there’s less people.

Yeah, I mean most places you have to reserve space online in advance. No waiting around for obnoxious people.

Mostly because people don’t wear them correctly.

It's clear they don't. It's also clear they instill a false sense of security which leads to a host of other behaviors which increase risk. Even if they were used to perfection--which they will never be--it's not clear to me they would significantly impact the course of the virus. I'm open to reviewing any evidence to the contrary, I'm just saying it's not clear.
