Does the T still shut down at midnight, anyway?

The trains have always shut down around midnight or 1am so that track maintenance can be performed. As for late night bus service.

They've segregated the positives in one wing with Partner Healthcare coming in to treat and monitor everyone. Employees are being tested and they'll have info soon.

My parents are in assisted living and in 3 weeks, 3 employees have tested positive - two were asymptomatic and one was diagnosed while on vacation. Since the first case was reported, the facility shut down all visitors, closed the dining room, stopped all activities, temp check all employees at the beginning, middle, and end of shifts and them temp all mask and glove up, and all residents are temp checked twice a day.

They've been transparent and we have gotten personal calls each time there was a case. Their biggest issue is with family insisting they have to get in to see their loved ones. "I PAY $XXXX A MONTH - I WANT TO SEE MY MOM!!!"

I'm glad to hear about the transparency. Sorry that the non-residents are being like that, and were probably difficult before these tragedies. I have found that when working with elderly patients, the families can often take out their anxieties and maybe guilt by hammering at the staff.

I remember that shut down stuff from 12-5a from my olden days in the area, and how people often couldn't get into work at 7a because of the transport schedule. How do cities do the track maintenance if they run around the clock? I remember in Philly, there might a train to New Jersey every 45 minutes or every hour but they still ran.

Extra tracks. Sometimes work will create diversions or express service only on certain lines in other cities but work can be completed much more quickly with a full day. Just setting up and breaking down a jobsite can be a few hours so they probably only do like 4hrs per night sometimes at the MBTA.

Thank you for the explanation!

Interesting read about the 1918 pandemic, and how the different cities responded and enacted their own social distancing rules. They did the same thing we are doing today. (Social distancing, schools closed, limit gatherings, close restaurants, etc)

Some pretty interesting charts there. Boston locked down late, and had one of the highest death rates, and a second wave. NYC locked down early, and had one of the lowest death rates.

So despite all the complaining, here is historical precedent

And now I see they are calling for masks in Boston --well dude, if you want to provide me one? Unless this is a naked power grab it makes me think that perhaps they know that Boston is the epicenter of spread in the state. Though I find that amazing because I have been in to Boston lately and it was a waste land. Charlie Baker said they were putting more effort into finding how the cases spread so I think it could be that.
