Doesn't seem like that's going to happen unless hospitals get overwhelmed. Roll out the vaccine to the nursing homes and we should be good.

But what about all the months between now and that roll out?

I also don't think there will be shutdowns, because so far, there seems to be no income support for people and businesses, and there needs to be, no matter what. The transmission is community, out of control.

Well, if Pfizer/Moderna gets approval soon, perhaps can start distributing what stock they have right now to nursing homes while they ramp. Be almost like a Phase 4.

Note I am not talking about genpop. I would think that nursing homes would be first.

I do think you are quite optimistic about a time line, but of course it would be great if accurate.

Now it might be optimistic to think that nursing homes, especially in Massachusetts will get the first crack at it. Who knows what the government will do with it.

The Phase 3 trial doesn’t assure safety and effectiveness. Two months of data. 43,000 and half of those got saline. It would be pretty lousy public health to rush out and inject tens of millions of Americans. In April after we have longer term data on a much bigger sample? Sure.

That's exactly what's going to happen. I am hoping they will start with nursing homes first for the reasons you mention.

I think most likely first responders/health care workers. At least, I hope so.

It’s nursing home staff you want to vaccinate. I wouldn’t fully trust a vaccine to be effective on the elderly in nursing homes who often have weak immune systems. I certainly hope the memory care place my mother is in does it that way and requires visitors to be vaccinated. In 9 months when there’s better data on effectiveness in geriatrics and when enough people have been vaccinated to have some herd immunity, hopefully that can be relaxed.

I'd be a bit leery of them being first in case something goes wrong.
