Also, global trends indicate that new microbial threats will continue to emerge at an accelerating rate, driven by our growing population, intensive farming, expanded travel/trade, and human encroachment into wildlife habitat etc etc

Time to spend more on science, not less
Spend more on science and listen to what we learn even when we don't like the impacts that will have.

Total deaths in Italy have now exceeded China.

Reported cases in the US up 25% over yesterday so far - and that is with very minimal testing.

Here's a good one.

Coworker's roommate has been trying to get tested for Covid19. Has the symptoms, but is mild and at home. They finally got tested last night and had a lung scan. Presumed positive pending test results (up to 2 weeks). Now resting at home

Co-worker (who only had a sore throat) has to quarantine from work for 2 weeks or longer until they test negative. (he can work from home)

He sits next to my other coworker at work, and did so up to a day or two ago, She lives with a roommate.

That roommate mentioned to a manager at her work that her roommate (line above) has been potentially exposed.

That person is now required to take 2 weeks of PTO pending the test result of the person 4 people removed from them who might be positive.

I imagine this sort of thing is going to play out now all over.

Where do you work that people were on site and sitting in close quarters as recently as a day or two ago?

I hope that employers forcing PTO and sick leave on people who are legitimately sick or under quarantine do pay their karmic debt when this is all over.

Some companies lump paid time off all together, as a single bank, not sick/vacation, etc.

I was working at my office until last Wednesday. Everyone has been remote since. My boss is the type who ‘values face to face time’. He also is a germaphobe and his wife has a compromised immune system so I think his tune has changed now. He was freaked out when his boss who had travelled to CA came to say hi. He said later he was like omg why is he coming in my office. And he’s an MD. Was not very reassuring lol.

Finally closing most beaches in FLA .... now that spring break is essentially over. Of course DeSantis had to squeeze every drunken dollar first before sending them on their merry contagious way across the US. Reprehensible.

Check out these idiots - too bad we cant isolate them all with DeSantis in FLA.

over.
Standard office cubicle.

Probably 6-7 feet apart?

Not everyone is WFH full-time. Still need to go into the office to use the lab for experiments. Right now everyone is trying to stagger times and keep their distance
